We had laundry day, as usual on Saturdays - and a very hot one at that. Apparently, temperatures peaked at 36°C in the capital (where I live), but in some cities down south went as high as 39°C. Fortunately, around 7pm strong winds came up, with a tiny bit of rain, so we can breathe again. Yay!

I was quite crafty today, too. Not only did I the heroic effort of sewing on the spine of the quiet book, I also finished the shepherds. Take a look:

The sheep aren't all of the same fabric because I mostly use scraps left over from the various quiet books for this project (with the exception of the back panels), but I don't think that would be a problem. They won't go to the same owner anyway.

Mum decided that cooking in this heat would be the needful thing to do, so she made Frikadellen (which, I think is the equivalent of meat balls, but I'm not sure) and mashed potatoes. Sometimes I wonder what stuff the woman is made of. Beyond 90, with only one fully functional limb, and she cooks in sweltering heat. Lunch was very yummy, though... and she isn't any worse for the wear than on other days. And I thought Grandma was the tough one!

This also means that tomorrow we'll only have to do minimal cooking, since we'll have leftovers. Perhaps a Tütensuppe of the fruity variation will be in order; those don't even need any cooking, one just stirs the powder into cold milk and puts the finished product into the fridge to chill.

Those shepherds are adorable. :)

Your mum sounds awesome. I hope I reach 90 and will still be half as fit!

I hope I am as tough when I am your mum's age. Those temperatures sound brutal, though.

They are a bit much, that's true. 30-32 degrees are normal for our climate in high summer, but this is way above normal right now.

Ugh — cooking in these temperatures is not a good idea.
At the moment I'm just looking what's in the freezer and throw it in the microwave! *lol*

For that, you actually ought to have a microwave. *g*

The shepherds are just absolutely lovely.

Our weather yesterday was very wet, windy, and only got to around 18C :(

It's not unusual for us to have days with temps between 18 and 20 in the summer, and unusual for it to go much above 28C. It is because we are surrounded by water — we are closer in temperature to Ireland than to most of England and even then we are usually warmer than them in winter and cooler in summer.
