I put the necessity of getting up early due to the water situation to good use and went to the market today. I wanted to buy some raspberries and red currants, since they are simply beyond my budget in the supermarket. I was lucky, I got both for a price that, while not exactly low, I could still afford. Therefore there will be red currant jam in the making tomorrow; I need it for the Christmas baking, and you simply can't buy it anywhere in this country. I froze a good half of the raspberries; the rest we'll simply eat.

We had a visit from the physiotherapist lady, who is great fun to be with, so Mum is in a good mood. I managed a tiny bit of writing - less than a page, really, but still progress -, worked a bit on the quiet book inner binding and cut out a few more pieces for the Christmas felt project. The latter promises to be an ongoing activity, as these little Nativity scenes require an ungodly amount of detail, so I decided to start early. Oh, the joy when all I'll have to do is to sew together the pieces!

All in all, I had a most successful day!

I wish I could have given you some of my red currants if you lived nearby, I have so many every year. I make the jelly for Christmas baking too but I still have plenty left from last year, so yesterday I made Rote Grütze and canned that.

And I would happily and gratefully accept! Well, perhaps when my friend Evie has moved houses and planted the red currant bushes in her new garden...

It’s so good that you had a good day in your week of woe.

We had lots of red currants this year, most of them are frozen for cakes.
We saw some at Aldi last week and boy, were they expensive.

Oh yes, they were! Which is why I went to the market. Sometimes I envy people who have a garden and can grow their own fruits. Then I remember that I have the dead thumb and realize that having a garden wouldn't help me much. *sigh*

Oh, yes. Which is why I couldn't find a single package of JamFix at Lidl, most likely.

I'm not familiar with currants. To the best of my knowledge, they don't sell them here. Are they a berry?

Yes, they are a berry fruit — a delicious one. See here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcurrant)!
