... that I really wonder how could I have crammed so many things into a few hours.

I started with a food run today, early in the morning because of the heat. Even so, I was drenched when I got home shortly before 9am. And Lidl didn't have the brand of ginger ale we always buy and that can only be found by them, as Freeway is a brand somehow attached to Lidl or whatnot. In any case, they didn't have it, just the Kinley one, which is three times as expensive. Drat, and I wanted to stock up with ginger ale for the upcoming warm days!

Prices have gone up again since I last was there (around Friday or so). What a surprise - NOT! But I found a few things that were on sale, so I rearranged my shopping list spontaneously. I think having spent my early childhood in very real poverty turns out to be an advantage now.

We continued with doing the laundry, since laundry day was postponed because of the visit of the hairdresser's. Joy. I then cooked for two days - a modified version of Mary Berry's Panang Chicken Fry, with mashed potatoes - and did a tiny bit of crafting in front of the telly.

Then we had lunch, and I talked to my friend Evie on the phone. Such is social life in these days, but at least we are still okay. *fingers crossed*

Now it is abysmally warm again, and I'm done in for the day. So I'll play some Solitary on the PC, read some fanfic, and then watch old GBBO shows on the telly.

I don't think you caught Covid or you would have it by now already ...

I mostly talk to my friends on the phone. It´s not because of Covid (to hell with it), but because all of us live in different towns or villages, and public transport is expensive . We are all retired, but some idiot had the idea that being 65 is the best age for a senior ticket. Before, it was sixty. So evrey year they add one more year to the 60, and we are all one year behind...

I'm fortunate in that area. Over here, if you are beyond 65, you can use public transport for free, including inland trains. From 60 to 65 you use the senior ticket for public transport and can get 50% Ermäßigung for the trains. Evil tongues say this is because our politicians are mostly in that age group. *g*

That does sound like a full morning. Staying out of the afternoon heat sounds like a good plan.

It would have been — only I did my cooking at half past three in the afternoon. *g*

What a busy day!

I always dread going back to the supermarket. There is always something new that has gotten pricier. And our chancellor said already that the actual tough year won't be until next year. That is terrifying but what can we do but try to muddle through.

I'm really glad I grew up learning to cook. I couldn't imagine being dependent on takeout/restaurants/ready made meals now. That has always been an expensive way to live but even more so now. At least we are capable of making use of bargains and changing meal plans with the times

You seem to a gift for economy. I must improve my adaptability regarding cooking, buying groceries etc. I often buy things I can’t afford because I can’t figure out how to substitute them. My diet is so restricted anyway. Every time I see price increases my heart drops a little. My coffee stash idea was a good one, now I need to expand my stashes. Oil, detergents etc etc. Grab them when they’re cheaper.

Sometimes hoarding is simply inevitable. At least you can do so with the dry goods.

Yep. It's surprising how a less affluent childhood can make adapting food a lot easier later. Shopping and laundry before lunch is very productive. I did nothing yesterday, other than move one piece of furniture.

On some days even that is too much!
