Today I decided to bring my (fairly thin) winter blanket to the lady who does small sewing jobs for an acceptable price. She had to move when the market next to our building was sold and has been closed ever since. (I wonder what the new owner will do with the place; I hope it won't be another huge office building that will then stand empty for decades; that's the current tendency.)

Fortunately, the new sewing workshop is only three tram stops away, so I packed the blanket into a big shopping bag, plus the fabric I wanted to be used to repair it and marched off... only to find a note on the workshop door that they are closed this week because of holidays. Grrr!

I had a bit of luck, though, as I got a bus that took me directly to the Savoy Park shopping centre. There I visited the craft shops (where I found nothing worth acquiring) and then went to the Auchan supermarket for the supposedly cheap(er) apricots. They were almost 50% cheaper than everywhere else indeed, but other people apparently got the same idea as I and when I got there, less than a kilo was left. I cruised a bit all over the supermarket, hoping that they'd bring out more - they didn't. So I bought all sorts of things that were for a semi-acceptable price (like milk and margarine), and on my way home I stopped at the fruit vendor (accidentally a former student of mine) and bought another kilo of apricots - for the full price. I still saved some money that way, although not as much as I had hoped. Which means tomorrow more apricot jam will be made. Yum!

It was beyond noon when I got home, and I was hot and tired. So I sat down in front of the telly, watching scripted cop shows in German and sewing a bit. Another Big Fish(TM) hot finished - five more to go.

At least I didn't have to cook much today. We still had some mini pizzas from the party, plus some leftover Bratkartoffeln from yesteday (stupid potatoes were getting soft, so I had to fry them in a hurry), and I made a mixed salad for vitamins' sake. I can't bless enough the genius who came up with the idea of kitchen-ready mixed salad in bags. They make life so much easier, even if I have to chop everything into microscopic pieces, so that Mum can eat them, too. We also finished the leftover apple compote and ate some of the cherry tart we still have from the party.

Leftovers are the best!

They had lots and lots of stuff — just nothing that I'd regularly use.

No more pre-packed salads for us- both hubby and I got sick twice when eating it. There´s a lot of germs to be found in such packages, that´s what food control found out. But I have to admit that it´s way easier and quicker to serve salad with the main course!

Yes, I know it's a distinct possibility, even though I am generous with the vinegar. *g* But mostly I buy them because that way I get a small portion of various veggies, enough for two people. Once upon a time I used to buy Eisberg salad, but even the smallest one was way too much for us and usually rot after a couple of days. By today's prices that's a luxury I can't afford.

At least you did save a little money, that's a good thing.

Leftovers are the best!

Ah, well, it was a bit annoying, but there are worse things.

What a shame that you had to carry your blanket around all the time.

I do like apricot jam — and as my husband doesn't it is one jam that I can eat at my own pace, and not go to put some on toast only to find less than a teaspoonful left.

I agree with you on the salad bags — even though I am growing some lettuce in the garden at present, they are more for fun, a good mixed bag is a much better addition to a meal.

Exactly! Especially if one doesn't have the means to grow one's own veggies.

I look upon leftovers as free meals. I buy bags of mixed, ready washed salad leaves too. There's much less wastage that way, when I'm only feeding me.

Yes, it isn't easy to buy little enough of some stuff, even with the two of us. And eating the same things gets old after the third day. *g*

Lunch for me is always leftovers, and if I am lucky, dinner the next night. My washer has destroyed the bindings on all our blankets, sad to say. It gets hungry, eats socks and other sundry items, so I have resorted to washing smaller stuff in a net bag, It is one of the newer kind, that is supposed to save water. It now takes an hour to wash one load, and does not clean half as well as the washer I had before. Sometimes, I hate technology.

I'm with you on the Luddite path. *g*

Over here, lunch is the main meal of the day; the one that is usually cooked. We have a cold supper later on, just something small as a rule.
