We couldn't air the flat properly all day because we are having fairly strong winds. I can open the windows for a tiny crack but not any further, or the curtains would fly out of the room. As a result, the air is somewhat stuffy, since the sun keeps burning down on the front side of every single room of us, starting at mid-day, up to 8pm. Fun. NOT!

I've made a quick food run in the morning and nearly got a heart attack. The price of the cheapest roll at Lidl got raised by 25%! Heidi mentioned a few days ago that eating healthily requires you to be rich. It seems that eating unhealthily isn't exactly cheap anymore, either. *grits teeth*

Speaking of an unhealthy lifestyle, we ate a colourful bunch of leftovers today: spinach crepes, cherry-compote-turned-into-fruit-soup with the help of a leftover egg and leftover creme freche, leftover mini pizzas made with canned tuna, various cookies and the likes. Soooo many calories and carbs! (We loved it!)

On the more healthy side, Mum had a visit from the physiotherapist. On a completely unrelated matter, I've finished another Big Fish(TM) and tacked on the mouths of the other six. Not much, but it is all very finicky work, so I consider it a success.

We both still feel yesterday's party in our bones (packing away Grandma's 150+-year-old china wasn't a small feat), so we decided to take it easy today. Which means to watch the re-runs of the GGBO on two separate channels... and not much else. ;)

I just said the opposite to my mum today — if you look and cook yourself you can still put together a healthy meal for relatively cheap.
Today's dinner cost about 8€ for three people with leftovers (one portion.)

Not over here, I'm afraid. The prices especially for fruit and vegetables are through the roof. I still don't think our fearless leaders realize what a stupid thing it was for the first so-called free government, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s to ruin our agriculture completely for political reasons.

Oh shit, looks like the next wave of flour prices hiking all baked goods is hitting... Bet it's gonna hit here soon, too. I have stashed some flour but not much you can do about baked goods if you don't have a giant freezer. So far mostly the milk product prices have been going through the roof, butter has doubled to tripled

Yep, here, too. Even margarine, which likely never saw a cow in its whole life, has become much more expensive. Mum and I both like milk and yogurt and Quark and cheese, so it's a hard blow for our purses. :(

Strange thing is that prices of fruits like mangos did not change much... that´s why hubby did two kilos of mango jam.

Exotic fruits, as they are called over here, have always been expensive. But even the price of bananas has gone up by at least 20-30 per cent, depending on the supermarket in which you buy them. I'm trying to keep an eye on the sales, but the sad truth is, I just don't have the strength and the nerves to go on a hunting trip in a different supermarket each day. There are other things to do — like living a little, restricted though it might be.

That said, I'm seriously considering to go to Auchan tomorrow and take a look at those apricots they are advertising for... to see if they're really half the price of those at Lidl and if yes, what the quality might be. I still haven't given up on a bit more of apricot jam.

That they are. And the sad part is that some people make indecent profit out of the need of the population.

All the time. *shakes head* This is when I have to remind myself that real prosperity is love. But yeah, it's hard.

Fruit and veg prices have gone up so much. I have kilos of coffee stashed because the price of ground coffee has increased to insane prices.

Oh yeah, I'm hoarding like crazy, too. Flour, sugar, coffee, cooking oil, pasta... whatever I can still get for an acceptable price and that doesn't require freezing.

Gosh, I keep wondering how people with low incomes even manage these days! :(

I really don't know. I mean, Mum and I manage on our pensions reasonably well, but even we feel the pressure, and there's only the two of us! I don't know how families with children do it.

Sometimes my friends and I make those mean little jokes that this is every government's way to get rid of old people, so that they won't have to pay the pensions anymore. Medicines are outrageously expensive already, and now the food prices follow, so old people either have to stop eating or to stop taking their drugs. In either way, they'll be dead in record time and the government can waste the money on their own purposes.

Prices are going up everywhere, it is worrying. Being skilled at using your left-overs to produce tasty meals is a skill the younger generations may well envy us, soon.

You know, sometimes I think that the only halfway positive result could be that people might stop wasting food and resources the way they did in recent decades. The younger generations certainly will have a harsh lesson to learn. But even for people like me who had spent their childhood in "romantic" poverty, it will be hard to get used to lean times again.

Prices on everything have more than tripled here, it is scary. We are also experiencing a record heat wave. Temperatures reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.78 Celsius) yesterday, and the hottest months are yet to come.
