A walk with Mum
Jun. 3rd, 2022 07:20 pmToday was definitely a day for outdoor activities - well, such as those are in our house. I got up almost an hour earlier to do the grocery shopping, since it was to be expected that there would be crowds, due to the long weekend.
Well, there were. But I got what I needed nonetheless... and even some things we didn't need immediately, but who can resist beautiful potatoes and apricots? Especially as apricots were to get for a more or less acceptable price, and I'm eager to try my hands on apricot jam - even if it's only one jar. If I succeed, there will be more, and to hell with the prices! As Mum likes to say, we've worked like slaves all our lives, it would be ridiculous not to afford the one or other little thing. It isn't so as if we'd be able to go on holidays in the foreseeable future.
Afterwards, I've finally finished the front page of the new quiet book; the one with the hot air balloon motif. I think it ended up just a tad too candy-coloured (=mildly kitschy), so I think I'll call the book "the Candy Princess". And if people find it to be too much on the candy-coloured side, I'll pretend that it was fully intended so. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! *g*
We ate leftovers and watched the Queen's platinum jubilee festivities on German TV for a while. After that, I lay down with my geriatric laptop to play Solitaire and read fanfic... this time my own stories, since nobody else seems to read them anyway. I find that I still like them - somebody has to! Unfortunately, I don't have that specific gene so-called big name authors seem to possess - the one that makes their stories insanely popular, even the less than stellar ones. That's a shame, really, but nobody said that life was fair.
Then Mum and I decided to go for a walk. She is planning to go with me to the Auchan supermarket with me - a place she hasn't seen for a year and a half, although it's a mere two tram stops from our house. But getting there requires to get to the tram stop first, then to board the tram (fortunately, we have those low-floor vehicles here), then getting into the actual supermarket from the terminus... it is a long time project that requires much practice first. But we're working on it.
So, that was it for today. Now I'm going to play more Solitaire and finish re-reading The Young Knights, one of my own pre-LOTR Tolkienfics I am particularly fond of. Apparently, it was Shakespeare who once said that we should say good things about our work - the others can't do it with the same emphasis. Or something in that manner.
