Well, this is Grandma's idiot proof cocoa sponge cake, filled with home-made strawberry jam, with chocolate icing on top, sprinkled with white chocolate shards and freeze-dried strawberry cubes (quite a long description for such a small cake):

Mum's lady friend liked it just fine, despite the fact that she doesn't like strawberry jam, which I didn't know. It's hard to keep tab on all the things she doesn't like. *sigh* In any case, she and Mum had a nice visit (that left Mum fairly exhausted afterwards), but by leaving, she managed to fall down the very last step of the nine that lead from the lift to the house entrance. Fortunately, nothing really bad happened - we only learned about the incident when she called us, after having arrived at home. Still, Mum was a bit upset about the news.

While the lady was here, I've finished Quiet Book #1 (or rather #4 altogether, as I've done a few before) and made some more strawberry jam. Then we ate leftover soup for lunch and the other half of the small cake (I packed half of it for our visitor, as she wanted to eat it at home).

After that, I was watching some crap telly, but my friend Evie called in the midst of it for an asparagus recipe. Half an hour later we agreed that her daughter might like some of my Robin Hood DVDs, which I no longer want to keep. It is the 2006 tv series, featuring Jonas Armstrong, Clive Standen and Richard Armitage. I generally like Robin Hood-themed stuff, so I bought the series in Austria blindly but wasn't particularly impressed by it. Evie's daughter, OTOH, watched it online repeatedly and liked it a lot, plus she'll have her birthday next month. So, if she's still interested, she can have it.

My favourite version is the Robin of Sherwood series. Unfortunately, I only have it as a private copy that lacks the English subtitles. So, actually watching it requires more concentration than I'm capable of in these days.

Glad to hear your mom's friend didn't get hurt.
Could the ladies please stop falling?

Ooooh ... Michael Praed. And Clannad's music! I have this on DVD. :-)
I also liked the version with Richard Armitage but I don't have that one ...

I very much prefer the Michael Praed one. Too bad that my understanding of spoken English is somewhat faulty.

And it is a non-fat sponge, so very easy to digest, too!

This lady seems to be a rather capricious one, hard to satisfy! Fortunately nothing too bad happened to her, when she fell!

She's not a bad person, just old — barely younger than Mum — and lonely. Her only son lives on the other end of the city, and she tends to be occupied with her health problems, day in, day out. She and Mum have been friends since 1965 and talk daily on the phone; I wish I had friends like that.

So am I! The last thing Mum needs would be her friend getting injured because of visiting her!
