Defiance

So, Kaspersky has run out, IT guy still hasn't show up, which means I'm living a dangerous cyberlife right now. It's like going to the shops at Covid times. But I can't just cut my main line to the outside world because I'm afraid of computer viruses. I've made a compromise: I'll spend much less time online until the antivirus problem is solved, and I won't visit any unknown websites, hoping that the three fanfic archives, Pinterest, LJ and DW won't send me any evil bugs.

Gmail problem still hasn't been solved; I tried to log in from one of the school computers, but it wouldn't let me - it did send me a security warning, though, that someone (that was me) tried to log in with my password. I hope we can solve the whole thing before IE goes out of commission. Creating a new Gmail account and changing the frigging address in all the official forums would be a real pain in the backside.

In more delightful news, I went to choir practice again - has it been a week already? Sometimes I wonder how time goes by so quickly. It was great fun as always... we were 9 people, plus the conductor and the piano player, in a large classroom, with the windows open. Fingers crossed that it means we had the proper precautions, but one can't live in fear all the time.

Tomorrow my friend Ilonka will drop by to fetch The Thing of Beauty for her pregnant daughter. Mum is happy to see her, she's such a nice person, and we haven't met for, oh, I think, two years or so. I hope they'll like the baby book.

I also made some progress on the quiet book project. One of the outline recognition pages is almost done, all Velcro patches are firmly applied - this won't need more than another day of work... perhaps two. Or so I hope.

I wish you safe travels on the internet! Hope it all goes well. Where is the IT guy? This is quite a mystery.

Out of town, overwhelmed by work, most likely.

It's not dire. If you're using Windows it contains some built in anti virus protection, so you're not completely naked out there. Having said that, that protection program is not as good as the purchased ones.

I have relied on the Windows one for years now — we gave up paying for anything else about 15 years ago and have never regretted it. Having said that, all the various computers in the house are working on Windows 10 so are pretty up to date.

Well, mine is still working on Windows 7, but at least IT guy called today. If everything goes well, we'll deal with the issue tonight.

Yes — that's what I was thinking about when Elwen mentioned it, as I thought that you were on 7 and they might not update the anti-virus any more.

I'm glad he has turned up — I hope everything is easily sorted out.

I think Windows offers protection enough, but, as I said, you may install a free anti virus program and delete it, when Kaspersky will be working again!

As I mentioned above, IT guy has resurfaced and I hope things will be dealt with tonight.

These days I just use Windows defender that comes with Windows 10. I've never had an issue with a virus. Having both windows defender plus a third party virus protection program running at the same time can cause conflicts.
