Today I got up an hour earlier than usual because I wanted to go to the post office and pay the gas bill I apparently owe the company before the cleaning lady would arrive. (I'll go to the bank tomorrow and try to figure out what went wrong with the transfer they were supposed to make.)

Then I spent a horrid amount of money in the supermarket, because they had several things on sale, which is always a trap. But at least I'm well stocked with baking margarine, flour, dry yeast and the likes.

Then we had the big badass Spring cleaning, which included all windows, the Venetian blinds and the curtains, aside from the usual stuff. It took the cleaning lady and my battered self four hours to get it done - my part being mainly moving the furniture around, handing her the things she needed, as well as emptying and re-furbishing the balcony. Half of my household was in the corridor for the best part of the day, all of which had to be put back to their place.

Fortunately, I'd cooked in advance for today, so we had lunch at, oh, shortly after 4pm. Then I did a tiny bit of sewing - all puzzle squares for the castle puzzle page are now finished, and I even forced myself to sew on two further pieces of Velcro, so I'll only have to do 7 more tomorrow. And all 6 lines with which the background will be safely stitched to the base page. But that can wait. I'm fully and truly done in for today.

I don´t give a damn about spring cleaning anymore. One does what one can, and not one bit more.

Believe me, it wasn't my idea. But Mum lives in eternal fear that one day we'll be swallowed by dirt if we don't clean the damned flat every other week — and from time to time in-between. 🤯

Geez ... do you have to do everything in one day?

The cleaning had been scheduled weeks ago. And today was the deadline for the bill.

We only clean every second week. And, as I've already pointed out, it isn't my idea.

I remember Grandma (around the age of 80 or so) complaining: "I can't do as much as I used to" — while still doing more than most people half her age. *g*

But the sad truth is, that I can't do as much as I used to, either. Even though I'm still "just" 66.

My grandmother still had the energy of ten men when she was 80 too. And could put the fear of God into a hundred of them. I'm not even half that age and I'm actually not sure I'd still want to be working like a horse at 80. I think at that age, one has earned the right to say the world can just kiss my bum! LOL!

Oh, I agree! It's just Mum who always want to do something at the age of 90 and despite the fact that she broke her leg last year and can't whizz around the house as she used to anymore. *g*

yeast? do you bake a lot of bread?

No, unfortunately my oven doesn't get hot enough for actual bread. It always comes out burned on the outside and raw in the inside. But there are lots of lovely small things, both sweet and savoury that you can make of yeast dough, especially around Easter. I'm still trying to decide if I want to make a big plait or a number of small buns.

Whew! That IS a big day! I hope you'll be able to get the situation with the bank figured out tomorrow.
Supermarket money madness here too. I had to get butter yesterday because I only get it when it's on sale, and we've run out.
So — the sale price was $3.50, which is close to what it used to cost full price last year. Now the full price is $6.50. for a pound of butter. OMG.
Oddly enough, coffee has been on sale frequently — I was able to get 2 32oz pkgs for $10 each. Their full price is $17.

I won't begin my spring cleaning until mid-may, because I'm not able to do it over the next month. But ugh. I have to do all the windows, and take down the curtains to wash, which I'm not looking forward to.

I just saw a couple of photos of your crafty book pages while scrolling... Can't wait to go take a closer look!

Four hours of cleaning, even with help, would just about kill me. I do my cleaning in little, half hour sessions, daily. Spring cleaning is something I have never subscribed to, I'm afraid. If you look behind furniture or in corners in my house you will find dust and cobwebs.

As I've mentioned above, it isn't my idea. But there are arguments you just can't win against a 90-year-old.

The only good part of cleaning is when it is all over.
