Today wasn't my day

But then Saturday rarely is. The weekly laundry throws over the usual daily schedule, and I get even less done than usual.

I worked a bit on the mirror quiet books in the morning - but not as much as I hoped. I wanted to finish the bees and sew them on, thus completing both double pages... well, it didn't happen. I have sewn on the loops, and even completed two of the four bees, but the other two are still unfinished. Tomorrow it is. Even though I wanted to write a bit tomorrow, aside from the shopping tour I'll have to make.

Then I cooked lunch. I made Sauerbraten and apple crumble for dessert; both things I make regularly and always succeed. Well, today I burned the Sauerbraten, and the apple crumble (meaning the crumble part of it) turned out as dry and hard as Sägemehl. Tomorrow I'll have to make Vanillesauce to pour over the crumble, so that we'll be able to actually eat it.

By then it was 4pm and I was royally pissed at my day. So, to cheer myself up a bit I called H. and we talked a bit. Then I just played solitaire on my geriatric laptop because I knew that writing was out of the question in my current state of mind. Hell, I couldn't even focus on a sodding crossword puzzle!

So yeah; so not my day! I'm looking forward to watch the umpteenth re-run of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood baking together in the GBBO's Mastercourse.

Oh man, it really has been a day in the kitchen, huh? I'm sorry, it*s so frustrating when recipes you KNOW you can easily master fail for mysterious reasons.

We had leftovers of my veggie lasagna and will have more assorted leftovers tomorrow still. Plus, none of my scheduled baking since we got strawberries. So you would think I would have gotten to writing with that extra time but alas...

Also, when I was grocery shopping today, I discovered Tchibo coffee has nearly doubled in price, that was fun

I can imagine just how much fun that was! I must go to the Chinese discount and stock up on coffee, too. It's already more expensive than it used to be, but I don't expect it not to get even worse. And we live on Eduscho, the green-packaged version of it.

Definitely do so! I googled when I got home, this was already announced pre-war, it is because coffee harvest last year was terrible in Brazil and this year's is expected to be as well. So now I'm expecting prices to only raise further

I do laundry every couple of days since I wash things pretty often. I'd never get finished if I did it once a week!

Won't the crumble get some moisture from the apples overnight and soften?

Once a week is more than enough for me! We don't really go out of the house, unless I have to, so there isn't really much to wash, but I still hate it. I'm not very housewife-y.

The crumble got doctored with vanilla custard, which worked beautifully.

We rarely go out either, but I'm kind of a frothing fanatic about cleanliness (read: totally insane), so I tend to wash laundry more than necessary. :)

The fun thing is, what you call custard is actually called pudding over here. The English kind of pudding (with sponge and all) is totally unknown by us.
