And time speeds up around one, even though there isn't so overwhelmingly much to do. I wanted to visit a craft discount store today, just to get out of the house, only to find it closed. Not for good, fortunately, just because of the national holiday tomorrow - they've decided to make a 4-day-weekend. So I walked up another long stretch to take a look at he Kik and Pepco shops in the nearby Budafok Plaza, but they didn't have many craft supplies, either. So my only booty today was a bag full of wine corks someone laid out at the garbage bin. They are all very nice and clean, although I might cook them tomorrow, just in case they have inhabitants. ;)

On my way home I went to Aldi - supposedly for milk, yogurt and cold cuts. I came home with two large shopping bags, full to the point of bursting. Aldi had several things on offer, and in these days you don't buy food when you need it; you buy it when it's on offer. So, tomorrow will be peeling and slicing and dicing carrots, zucchini and the likes, so that I can freeze them for future use.

In the early afternoon I worked a bit on the quiet books; namely, on the six honey pots for the gentlebears. You'd think I can finish six felt honey pots in two hours, right? You'd be mistaken. Sewing on the decorative honey drops first (all 12 of them), and then the Velcro on the back of the things is really hard on the fingers. So, adding the lids and sewing them together will have to wait.

After all this, my bold original plan of typing up what little I had managed to write yesterday has been postponed, too. Such is the life of the elderly and slow...

Yeah, definitely feeling you on buying when food is on offer. We should start doing that with fresh veggies here, too. I've mostly taken over rule of the staple food cabinets here ever since I live at Mom's again, since I had to learn that when I lived in a village/suburb with only a single grocery store. That taught me a heavily regimented buying food from one time it's on sale to last until the next timem

Of course limited storage space and a small freezer aren't helping things.
So, you're back with your Mum again? When did that happen?

It was supposed to be only for a little bit but then Covid started and I stuck around.

Yeah, small freezer definitely makes it harder. We actually have a pretty large one (got one of these fridge-freezer combos) but it is never enough space

We've got a similar thing, but it isn't any bigger than a large fridge, and one of the freezer drawers is full of my various nut supplies, since that's the only place where they are safe from moths.

We've been doing it to a certain extent, too. But with the current exploding prices it has become a necessity.

I agree, it's good to stock up a little bit now. I'm so glad we realized there'd be a shortage on corn and rapeseed oil and bought a couple bottles of each. Last time we were at the supermarket, the oil aisle was completely empty.

Yesterday I went to Lidl — we have a large one next corner — and was surprised how empty a lot of shelves were. I've never seen that before. Of course, tomorrow is a national holiday, when everything is closed, and Hungarians tend to panic when the shops are closed, even for a single day, fearing that they would starve or whatnot, so it is possible that people simply bought up most of the stuff on Saturday, since Aldi had no shortage today. Still, it was weird, not to be able to find such exotic and complicated things as Quark and yogurt. [/sarcasm]

We had that at the start of the pandemic too, no flour to be had for weeks, for example. Aldi here is rationing things like oil and flour right now to discourage hoarding, so it's one or two bottles of oil per person, not like...ten or twenty at a time.

Not that I'd have a rat's chance to carry home ten or twenty bottles of oil at one time. I don't even have a car, and a six-pack of mineral water is my limit. *g*

I've started to buy one package of flour or sugar or one bottle of oil each time I do the shopping. Those are about the only things that don't require a fridge and won't go bad so soon. Also, the gvt. ordered a price stop on them until May 1. Can you imagine how they will explode after that? Our national currency has reached a never-before-experienced low already: we have to pay 400 HUF for a single Euro! A month ago it was around 350!

I don't know yet. They are very good for making small figures or bigger, more elaborate objects, but I'm not planning anything so far. Two felt books and one cardboard one at the same time are more than enough, not to mention the Easter baking.

I just bought a big package of chicken parts but I have to rebag them when I stick them in the freezer because I live alone and usually only cook one piece of chicken for dinner and I don't want them getting stuck together in there. Most groceries are packaged for groups. Ever try to buy one burger roll?

Mind you, our fridge is small, but there's only the two of us.

Prices have gone sky high here, so whatever goes on sale sells out quickly. Plus, we have shortages due to shipping problems.; Not sure things will ever go back to normal. But, I guess everyone is experiencing the same.
