Crafting is good for you!

Saturday is laundry day, plus I had to cook half the lunch (Mum volunteered to do the other half, as she's fond of spinach, unlike me), so I wasn't in the right mindset to focus on writing. Which is a shame, I so hoped to finish "Kindred Spirits during this picowrimo session! Not much chance for that with the progress I'm (not) making. :(

But at least I did lots of crafting. Fortunately, crafting doesn't require any higher brain functions. So I've finished the two bears for the quiet books... well, almost. I still have to sew them together and insert the lining. But their faces and limbs and whatever are stitched, the Velcro is sewn on to their backs, and I've cut out the honey pots for them, too. Tomorrow more Velcro is on the programme - the honey pots also need it. *sigh*

Then my friend Evie called and we chatted a while on the phone. Seriously, I don't know what we'd have done in these last two years without telephone. It is a life-saver, and not just because you can place emergency calls.

Yes, I will, as soon as the pages are complete. My iPad mini can't take many more photos, storage space is running out, so I have to wait for the finished product.

Have you ever had layered spinach Palatschinken? That's about the only way I really enjoy spinach.

No, I've never had that but I'm curious since I grow so much spinach. I usually make it the way my grandmother made it. I cook and drain the spinach, then make a sauce. I sautè a diced onion in a couple of tablespoons of butter, then whisk in about a tablespoon of flour. I add enough water to make a creamy sauce, then season it with salt, pepper and nutmeg. I add the spinach and run a stick blender through it all until it's all blended, then blend in a shot of heavy cream and some chopped chives. I love it as a side to pan-fried potatoes and scrambled eggs, or with fish and buttered rice.

I've come to love the phone ever since I retired. I wouldn't hear a human voice aside from Mum's for weeks otherwise.
