"Forgotten Song"

I've just posted Forgotten Song to Gildor's Library. This was my very first Tolkienfic... well, the first I wrote down, and certainly the first in English.
It's a strange feeling to re-read the story before posting again, after some three years or so. In a way, it's to me as The Hobbit could have been to The Professor. Aside from my... erm... creative grammar, of course.
My writing style has changed a great deal in these three years - for better or worse, I cannot tell, just that it's different now. Maybe it's less clumsy now, but somehow not so... so honest anymore. I've become too worried about too many things in these years. Not that it did me any good. Not that I can notice it, that is.
The most interesting thing is, however, that many things that later appear in my stories, are already here. Elrond and Legolas' relationship, Legolas' betrothed, his whole family background, Glorfindel's origins and past, a glimpse of Erestor's suffering at a tender age, Boromir's conflicted nature, my tendency to take the side of the Stewards instead of Aragorn's... all is there.
Of course, the original story contained only the stuff that now makes out Chapters 1 and 2... and it had a somewhat different, a little abrupt ending. I wrote the other two chapters and the Appendix considerably later - but still early enough to be amazing how much of the later stuff had already been rooted here.
This was the story that got taken apart by a well-meaning but rather merciless reviewer. At that time, it hit me so hard that I pulled the whole story from FF.Net, just to get rid of that signed review. Now, almost three years later, I can see the weeknesses of it myself. But it's still very dear to my heart, and I don't think I'd ever undertake to rewrite it. It is as it is, and I love it, with all its faults.

So far, six parts of the series are finished, one is under work and two more are to go. If I live long enough to finish them, that is.
