Our cleaning lady has fallen ill, the poor thing. Since everything was prepared for the ritual bi-weekly cleaning frenzy (things heaped onto higher surfaces, carpets picked and rolled up and the likes, which usually takes twice as long as the actual cleaning), I had to perform it on my own. Let's just say that I'm getting too old for this shit. It isn't so that I wouldn't help her - I always do, as she shouldn't lift heavy things because of her back. But doing it - and the preparations, and the putting back things afterwards - all alone, with just a little help from Mum, is a bit brutal.

After that I had to make two food runs because the fridge was empty, too. During the second one it started raining, slowly but steadily. I was soggy to the bones when I came home, despite having an umbrella with me. Gah, I was done in for the rest of the day. It's a good thing I cooked in advance yesterday.

But I might have visitors on Thursday - two young friends on maternity leave and their toddlers, who want to fetch their cat pillows - so I've got something to look forward to. *fingers crossed*

Babies are precious. :) Toddlers are somewhat higher maintenance, as they are very mobile, but we'll be three adults for two toddlers, so let's hope we'll manage. *g*

Sorry you had to do the cleaning yourself.

One has to do what one has to do. *sigh*

Your mom wouldn't tolerate a light version of cleaning when the cleaning lady can't come, right?
Like not doing everything on one day ? You need to take care of yourself, you're the one taking care of your mom :)

The problem was, we had everything prepared for the big, monster cleaning. We only learned that the cleaning lady couldn't come in the morning. Doing only part of the work would have meant that we'd have to go through the same hassle in a few days again — or live in a flat resembling a refugee camp for days. So we chose the lesser evil.

What an awful day! You must have been exhausted. I bless the day I discovered online grocery shopping.

I for myself prefer doing the shopping for real. Fortunately, we've got three large supermarkets within easy reach; for two of them I don't even use the tram, and the third one is in the shopping centre two tram stops away.

The cleaning of smaller rooms is what I hate most. Roll up the carpets, vacuum the floor, bring back the carpets, vacuum them, too, chairs into the other room, chairs getting dragged back- I so know what you are complaining about. Had to do so with my tiny studio today, which was indeed in a bad shape. One room, and it feels as if my back is breaking apart. Must indeed be our age... Hopefully your cleaning lady will recover soon!

I hope so, for her sake before everything else. She's such a nice person.

But yeah, 90 per cent of the cleaning is rearranging the entire flat to get access to the actual dirt... since the flat is 53 square metres, including a living room, two tiny bedrooms, the kitchen, the bath, the loo and the balcony. And we've moved in, back in 1977, with all the large, old-fashioned pieces of furniture.

Oh dear! What a busy day for you! Still, a good feeling once it's all done.
