Fish!

No, seriously, we had baked fish for lunch today! Such is the excitement of my life - NOT!

But I've finished all six major photo mats for the second baby book and I'm reasonably content with the outcome. Of course, one always finds details that could have - and should have - been done better, but that's why we are hand-crafters and not machines, right? Next I'll be making the inner binding, because that's finicky and boring and always a relief when finally done, and then I'll go on to Page #4. *fingers crossed*

The other important thing (important for me, that is) I did today was hunting down the various recipes for Mum's 90th birthday cake. It will be a hybrid, as I don't like the cake base the recipe recommends for the pineapple/vanilla pudding cake, so I'll make a Wiener Boden instead, which is stable enough to bear the two different fillings. The upper cake will be Grandma's unbeatable fat-free sponge, with a bit of cocoa powder, so it won't be too heavy for the lower cake.

Or so I hope. I've never done anything this complicated before. I wrote a shopping list, just for the cake, and was surprised how long it was, especially as a great many of the ingredients I already have in storage. Next week promises to be... err... interesting, baking-wise. *g*

I also managed to write a few meagre paragraphs for Chapter 21 of Enterprise - The Maiden Voyage, my Enterprise/Torchwood, fairly AU fusion, that hasn't been updated for the last 4 years. If I'm very lucky, I might cobble together another chapter by the March [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo session.

Might being the key word here. As good as an agitated state of mind is for crafting, it's very, very inconvenient for writing. *sigh*

We had baked fish — and potato salad — for lunch as well.
Must be Friday, eh? ;-)

I dunno. Our cooking is rather spontaneous, and we rarely eat fish, so it is probably a coincidence.

You should have hugged the fish first!

It was breaded and frozen. I don't like the feeling of oily, frozen bread crumbs on my clothing. ;)

Yeah, it promises to be that way. We'll see what comes out of it.

I love the hunt for recipes, though the baking gets usually done by a pastry chef, especially if it´s for a birthday cake!

Well, it will be most likely just the two of us, so if I mess it up it won't really count. But I'll try to bake something beautiful for Mum if I can.

I ate so much fish as a child (it was cheap and readily available) that we don't eat as much of it as we should really.

That cake sounds as if it will be lovely.
