No creative activities today

The morning was spent in the bank, at the pharmacy and making a food run. Even a brief visit to the Kik shop next to the supermarket yielded very little results. But at least I could got all things done that needed to be done, so there's that. I even planned out (in my head) Mum's - hopefully - very spectacular birthday cake I'm going to bake for her 90th. And I managed to organize the hairdresser for the 27th, so she'll be all pretty on her birthday.

We then ate leftover soup with some cookies from the Christmas baking frenzy (I still have a tin full of them), watched some telly, then Mum rested a bit and I solved some crossword puzzles and chatted on the phone with my friend Eenie. After that, ich habe meinen inneren Schweinehund besiegt, as the Germans would say - sorry, no idea how to translate that - and typed up the one page and a half I wrote the day before yesterday.

And now up to watching re-runs of the GBBO and the Great Australian Bake-off - three episodes on two different channels, some of them running at the same time. It's exhausting to keep one's concentration up under such circumstances, I tell you! *g*

The plan is a two-tiered sponge: a larger vanilla one with pistachio and pineapple buttercream (Mum loves pineapple), covered in white chocolate icing, and a small, chocolate one with chocolate-coffee and strawberry (or raspberry, I haven't decided yet) buttercream, covered in dark chocolate icing. There will be nine candles, one for each decade, and some other decoration I have to think about yet.

What in the end will turn out is everyone's guess, though. I'm not good at fancy cakes. But I'll give my best.

Haven't seen the Aussie one but I have seen a show on Netflix called Zumbo which is from Australia and is kind of like GBBO if it were run by Willy Wonka.
