... because the fridge was empty again. And the kitchen cupboard. Basically, we were out of the few things we can currently eat, although there are things in the freezer I won't dare to try right now.

In any case, I went to the Savoy Park shopping centre, where I started my tour at the pharmacy - surprisingly enough, empty of customers -, then continued at Kik, where I bought some more crafting supplies for the peace of my stressed-out soul, and finished at the Auchan supermarket, where I bought everything else. Including even more crafting supplies.

What can I see? I'm helpless against the temptation of pretty things that enable me to make pretty things. This time the three little girls' handbags, and perhaps a piggy head out of waste CDs. For which I needed the googly eyes...

Consequently, we had "breakfast" around half past twelve and "lunch" (the usual leftover soup and some cookies) after 4pm, while watching Kirstie's Handmade Christmas. I'll be mourning when Christmas time is over and they'll take it off the programme until next year. I saw so many pretty things and interesting techniques.

My friend Evie called later on. One of our former choir mates has recently died from advanced Parkinson's disease, topped with a bad case of Covid that she'd caught in hospital. Today was her funeral and all choir members were asked to attend, if they could. Alas, I could not - if it were only me, I would have, but I am deadly afraid of bringing something home to Mum. Going to the shops is risky enough, but an hour-long funeral service with lots of singing would have gone beyond reason. Evie was there and said that it was really, really cold in the church, so I am guiltily relieved that I'd chosen not to go. I can't tolerate cold surroundings well, and once I've caught a cold, it takes me weeks to get over it.

I had little time to do anything else today. I'll try to type up a few more pages from the finished 18th Timescape chapter before I'll be called in front of the telly again, to watch the umpteenth re-run of The Great Christmas Bake-Off. Yeah. My life has taken on a rather odd routine lately. But there are worse things, right?

I'm surprised that a big funeral with singing is allowed. But yeah, better not risk anything.

Basically, it was the funeral mass where the singing took place. And apparently the priest loved to hear his own voice...

I think you were absolutely right to avoid the funeral. A shopping trip is an essential but, honestly a funeral isn't.

It's just so that I liked this poor woman so much! She was our school secretary, a friendly and helpful person we worked with for a decade or so. Seeing her deteriorate due to her illness was bad enough, but for her to die so quickly... :(

I am not attending church at present, because it is so cold in there. Ours is an old, stone built, Victorian building and they're leaving the doors open to provide ventilation. That, combined with a British winter, is not comfortable to sit in.

I've secularized my relationship with my Maker years ago, as our priests can't keep their noses out of politics and tend to support the right wing. I decided that praying in my little chamber alone is better for the peace of my soul than mentally cursing all along the preaching...

During the last three weeks I have been at three funerals (none Covid related). No singing allowed at the mass, that´s what we have here. Two of the deceased have been younger than I am. i think now is a good time to begin to worry... It is a plague to have to do big shopping trips in times like these, with so many holidays and people taking a vacation. Not even high prices keep them from storming the shops!

M was three years younger than I, too. And a nice, helpful co-worker at that. :(
