The 2nd day of Christmas
Dec. 26th, 2021 05:50 pmAt least that's what December 26 is called over here. Also known as the day of St. Stephan, the first martyr. A cheerful choice, isn't it?
In any case, we were a bit more cheerful today. We did the weekly laundry, and at the same time I made a batch of small plaited yeast breads with raisins, for the simple reason that I don't want to go food shopping tomorrow. The shops were closed for two days, and Hungarian citizens are always overcome with fear of starving in such occasions, thus they overrun the supermarkets and groceries to buy ungodly amounts of food for the next days, since the same horror (= closed shops) will happen on January 1. I'll go and buy our bread and milk and other essential food items a day or two later.
Around noon my friend Evie came over and we exchanged Christmas gifts. Or, in her case, birthday gifts as well. The cutlery box now has a good home, and so do the textile napkins and the large tablecloth. Both sides are happy.
Later on, our neighbour came to congratulate Mum and I on our shared name day - I don't know if there's a similar concept in the English culture, but German speakers among us will be able to identify the Namenstag. We had coffee with cookies (I think I'll be offer cookies up to Easter) and a chat. It was nice. She's triple-vaccinated as well, but Mum kept on her mask, just in case, like during Evie's visit.
Oh, and I forgot to mention yesterday the unexpected resurface of my muses! I spontaneously wrote about eight pages to my Primeval/Torchwood x-over, Timescapes, which means there's hope to finish the long ongoing chapter in a very short time. I think I'll only need one page or two for that. Yay!
