I've actually finished Christmas Gift Fic #3 today! What's more, by doing so I actually managed to unblock Precious Like Rubies that has been on the back burner for a couple of years. I've written myself into a corner with that one a bit — mostly because I tried too hard to follow Sherlock Holmes canon — but now, by writing this short vignette the solution (and one I'd never have thought of) has simply come to me. I believe I'll eventually use this gift fic as the epilogue of the actual story!

(Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo members who're going to see this news twice.)

Other than that, I made a food run, packed away the dried washing, cooked lunch and generally lazed around for the rest of the day. A good chunk of that time was spent watching the Great German Bake-Off - it was good to watch other people slaving over the hot oven for a change.

And now I'll have to pick up everything that might be in the way of tomorrow's scheduled cleaning and put them in high places. *sigh*

Yay indeeed! I almost gave up on this story, no matter how much I liked it. It is a Sherlock BBC/ACD Sherlock Holmes/Miss Marple fusion, with some Torchwood characters thrown in — without the actual Whoniverse background. I had great fun with it.

Congratulations on the writing! And you deserve to laze around after all that writing and housework!

Sometimes I have the feeling that sooner or later I'd drown in mundane, boring housework. Baking obviously doesn't count, baking is delight, but the rest of it... Today I once again realized why I prefer baking so much to cooking: the ingredients are much more pleasant. You don't have to deal with raw meat when baking, for starters...

Your mother would faint if she saw my craft room at the moment. It looks as though I am in the process of fighting World War Three in there.

Mum is not the fainting type. There might be some mildly acidic comments afterwards, when you can't hear them, though. ;)

She's a bit like Miss Marple — a sharp tongue covered in honey. ;)

Food run on Sunday, unbelievable! Union might instigate strike if someone here only would start to think about it. There have been some shops in town which kept open this Sunday before lockdown, to sell seasonal articles to empty the storing place, and all they can think about is penalties!

In my forgotten youth, shops were regularly closed on Sundays, too. Then came "the change", as they say, rabid capitalism sweeping over the country after the fall of the previous regime; open shops on Sundays was about the only advantage of it, IMO. A couple of years ago the Christian Democrats boxed through an edict to close shops — even grocery shops — on Sundays again, but the outrage was so great that they had to revise it after a year or so. Funnily enough, the shop assistants were among the outraged, too; they lost their special Sunday money, and that was a deep cut into their pockets, seeing how low their wages are to begin with.

Oh well done for getting the story to flow.

I have to say there is a great deal of pleasure in watching other people baking — especially if you can sit and drink coffee and eat either cake or cookie at the same time :)
