According to the good people at [livejournal.com profile] get_knitted, baking counts as crafting, too. So Mum and I were crafting together - we decorated the biscuits I had baked yesterday. The pattern looked like this: I put the icing on the biscuits and she put the small sugar stars and stuff on the icing. That way we saved a lot of time - and had fun together.

Even so, it took us hours, so we decided to eat leftover soup and sandwiches for lunch (again!). Grandma is probably rolling in her grave. So, to placate her upset spirit I'll be making Shepherd's Pie tomorrow.

The biscuits are now safely stored in tin boxes on the unheated balcony. I'll try to take some photos tomorrow - by the time we were done, there wasn't enough natural light left for a good photo.

We then watched the German Bake-off, and with that, the day was basically over.

I very much agree! Even if the biscuits end up looking like frogs run over by a truck. *g*

That's the best thing about Christmas baking ... doing it together.

Exactly! Mum never developed a real thing for baking — Grandma has ruled that field for very long, and then I simply took over — but she likes doing such small things with me.

It is always nice — unless it's cleaning, in which area she's never quite satisfied. *eyeroll*

So do I, although in these days Mum is the only one who can join me.

Did grandmother not approve of leftovers and sandwiches for dinner?

For lunch. In her opinion, lunch ought to be a proper, cooked meal of at least two dishes.

My mum was a really bad cook and baker, but I loved to do Christmas baking with her! So much fun to see how much she enjoyed to help decorate the cookies!

Baking counts! It's making stuff from other stuff, and it that isn't the essence of craft, I don't know what is!
