I've managed to register for the 3rd jab, both Mum and myself! Yay! It appears that I was an idiot; the website worked just fine, but I misunderstood something, which caused the site to stop. Now I've figured out the trick and we're to get our jabs on November 29, in a hospital relatively near to our home. Mum is feeling adventurous and intends to use the bus to get there - I'm not so sure about that myself, but we'll see.

Other than that, I made some more preparantions for tomorrow, when I'm planning to bake 6 different sorts of cookies. Yay!

Congrats!

I need to get an appointment for my mother, too. Vaccination centers have closed here and she has been very reluctant to see a local doctor since she doesn't want to get into the grindmill but I finally convinced her to just get it over with (I think, anyway, that I finally convinced her, hopefully)

Hope you can convince your mother to at least take a cab the way back.

We can't take a cab; she might not be able to get in and she definitely won't be able to get out again. Her hip and upper leg are a lot less flexible than they were before the accident, and they were stiff enough already. So it's the bus or the private patient transport, which is quite price-y. I'd still prefer that, though.

Yeah, it would certainly be the better option then.

My thoughts exactly. After all, it's just money — what is it compared with one's life and health?

That's true. I hope you can convince her. For your peace of mind, at least, even if she doesn't want to spend the money on herself.

Thanks! If I weren't such a computer illiterate I'd have managed to do it even earlier.

I'm pretty relieved myself, thanks. Here in Hungary the government does whatever they can to get the people vaccinated as soon as possible. There are very few things they do I'd agree with, but this is one of those exceptions.

I don't know if you'd heard ... but Hungary has been classed high risk by Germany today.
Which is a joke, seeing how high the incidences are here.

Well, the situation is pretty dire over here, so I can understand it. Besides, the fewer people visit right now, the lesser the chance of cross-infecting each other, so...

Great! I've registered my Mum, too! I'm still too young to be eligible myself but I'll definitely do it when I can!

We were idiots not having done this back in September when we could have simply walked over to the family doctor's office (two corners from home), without all the fuss. But hindsight is fifty-fifty, as they say (assuming I remember the saying correctly, which is by no means certain).

Excellent! What a relief... apart from wrangling the logistics of getting there and back. Sounds like your mum is getting frisky again!

She does that. Now she's mostly relieved that I've wrestled the WWW into obedience — she was seriously panicking that we won't be able to register at all.

Congratulations on scheduling the booster for you and your Mum. We were shocked to learn how much the efficacy of the two shots fell off after several months, and it is wonderfully reassuring to know our immunity is brought back up to 90% by the boosters.

Good for you! We're scheduled for our boosters on the 19th, I wanted to get it done before the Thanksgiving holidays.
NYC is actually doing very well right now, but we're all worried about what will happen since we've reopened to international tourism and
winter and indoor life is on the way. We do have to show proof of vaccination for indoor public events, which helps.

The situation over here is a bit chaotic; aside from the vaccination, our fearless leader seems reluctant to do anything that might help. Organizing mass events in times like these, just to keep his voters from outside the country warm is irresponsible to the extreme.

The irony of the thing is that — as soon as I've finished registering — a day later the family doctor's practice contacted me and offered the chance to get our booster shots there. Which I eagerly accepted, as this means Mum and I can simply walk down two streets, without patient transport needing to be included!
