FF.Net has a wonderful new feature. Whenever you want to read an actual story, it checks out your browser. It supposed to take 5 seconds. Last time it took at least twenty. And my tablet is old and apparently slowing down because I couldn't wait for its browser to be checked (or it's terribly outdated, which is why the checking process just restarts every 15 seconds and leads to nothing).

It doesn't do the checking thingie when you want to read the reviews to a story. Or to access the author's bio page. Is this some sort of anti-plagiarism action or simple idiocy? I vote for the latter. It's the Pit of Voles, after all.

Tried it out, and indeed, never had that before. Admittedly, the times I have been there for reading are long gone, but still... I think I quit visiting when I wasn´t able to download chapters of stories I was reading anymore. I used to do so to be able to read in my free time during work, because I had no Internet connection in the rooms I used for teaching. No new chapters on my tablet, bye bye fanfiction net!

There were exactly two things I liked on FF.Net: the PM system and the fact that one could upload whole chapters without having to hand-code the whole thing again. And I had a few favourite authors whose stuff I re-read from time to time. But if I have to wait for ages to get access to the actual stories I'll wink bye-bye, too.

Oh yes! Which means I can't read it on my slightly outdated iPad mini... or on my geriatric dinosaur of a laptop.

I only really use ff.net to post stories nowadays...not that I have done that for a long time, either. I prefer AO3, because I can just copy and paste.

I liked in FF.Net that I could upload fully formatted Word files directly. It was so much easier than first format them on LJ and then copy and paste them to AO3. But that was about the only advantage of the site. That and the PM system.

Well that sounds really annoying!

It really is, especially as older devices like my tablet or laptop can't deal with it.

I don't like change. Took me forever to figure out how to post on ff.net and now, A03. Changes make my heart hurt.
