Well, mostly. We did go to Lidl in the morning, so that Mum could use the still rather nice weather and get a bit of walk-training and some fresh air. But after that, it was first baking for tomorrow, when her friends come - I've put the Mohnfix I got from [livejournal.com profile] manue7a to good use - and then cooking for today.

In-between I did quite a bit of washing-up. Mum's been insisting to do that herself ever since she'd recovered enough to do so, but the truth is, if I didn't wash 90% of the things I use along the way, we couldn't even breathe in the kitchen, much less do anything useful.

So yeah, I baked and cooked, and then worked a bit on my newest cherry stone pillow. I hadn't planned to make them this year, since I made last year these:

and these:

But a colleague of mine has collected the cherry stones for me all summer long (not that I'd know about it) and I didn't have the heart to throw them out. I still had that very pretty fabric that came with a mask-making kit (I didn't use it because I found the fabric was too pretty, so I used old bedsheat parts instead), so I decided: why not? The pillowcase is half-finished by now, all I need is to go around the edges with blanket stitch, fill it with cherry stones and sew the opening closed.

Which I'll probably make tomorrow to survive the visit of Mum's friends. They are nice ladies, but one of them might bring her husband and he's what the Germans call a Nervensäge. A well-meaning but not very bright man who just frigging loves hearing his own voice and has an opinion just about everything whether he's asked or not. Especially when he isn't asked.

I then talked to Eenie, Monica and Evie on the phone, which was nice. I love my (ex-)colleagues and choir mates to pieces.

What did you bake for tomorrow?
Your mum is quite busy these days, eh?

Could you make a bigger cherry stone pillow?
Oh man, people that love to hear their own voice are hard.

Theoretically you can make them as big as you want, but keep in mind that bigger ones are heavier, too.

Sewing sounds like a very good way of Zenning out Mr Know-it-all.

I think I´d have to eat cherries for years to get enough stones for a small pillow! Sewing will be an effective way to zone out the Nervensäge! In my opinion many men who go beyond 60 are this way- lecturing when no lecture is needed, and talking nonstop...

So, I really will have to ask now. What is the thing with cherry pit pillows? Are they therapeutic, or do they smell nice or are they good because they're sort of like bean bags? I'm asking with genuine curiosity because I don't think they're an Australian thing and I've never even heard of them and they sound so sweet. Are they a traditional craft? Please tell me about cherry pit pillows!

When heated, they are good for rheumatic pain. When iced, they're good for inflammation, insect bites and the likes. Mine certainly helped when my upper arm swell up after my second Covid jab: a couple of times daily for 15 minutes each time, and the swelling was gone in about four days. So, basically they can be used both as heat packs and as ice packs. Plus, they adapt to the shape of the body very well — I simply put mine under my sleeve and it stayed there as if glued on.

So, like a wheat pack! I LOVE that idea! Cherries are poisonously expensive here, but it's a great idea! I might have to put that on my list!
