We had our first choir practice today - about 8-10 people in a large room meant for 30 children. I was sitting in the back row, so I hope I haven't taken too much of a risk, but the truth is, I'm tired of living in fear. I'll try to minimalize exposure as much as possible, but I've missed my choir so terribly.

I still don't go to the practices of the Oldies and only on Tuesdays to my primary choir, when the kids are no longer in the building; but singing again was a true blessing. I just hope the price won't be too high. *fingers crossed*

It was glorious! I love singing, have been singing in various choirs since the age of 11, and I missed it so much. That and my choir-mates, half of whom are (ex-)colleagues, too.

There comes a point when you have to step out and do things you love again.

So happy for you! A joyful day, back in the choir!

It sounds like you took very reasonable precautions, so I will keep my fingers crossed for you too. It's an uneasy feeling, to be out and about in group activities again, isn't it? Even though we're vaccinated, we always have that little nagging worry running beneath it all.

Unfortunately, being vaccinated doesn't mean that you can't catch the dratted virus as several examples in my wider environment have shown. But I'm cautiously optimistic.

I know what you mean. We know a few people who got it after being vaccinated. So that worry is always there.

It is. But I didn't have anything even remotely like a life for the last year and a half. I sorely needed something that made this existence worth living.

It's wonderful you can be back with the hour. Group singing is so good for the heart and soul:)

That was supposed to be the choir! Not the hour!

That’s lovely. Choral music is beautiful. It’s wonderful that you’re back to practice!
We’re still in lockdown in my state. The world’s longest lockdown! The incompetence of our government’s vaccine rollout is beyond comprehension. Apparently a major US newspaper did a huge news story featuring our government’s vaccine rollout as an example of what not to do. Our prime minister is an absolute scumbag and incompetent as well! I’m vaccinated as I was early on the list because of my health, but it’s still only a smaller percentage of our population is vaccinated.

I know it isn't any comfort, but — aside from the vaccine rollout which has, surprisingly, worked fairly well — our PM is an absolute scumbag, too. Unfortunately, he is far from incompetent, so we'll be "blessed" with his rule for many years yet to come.

It is a comfort to know we’re not the only ones to have elected a scumbag. (Besides America, who actually elected Trump, something I find impossible to believe even now.). We have strict lockdown laws in place, meaning people can’t travel from area to another. There are people who haven’t been able to visit a parent dying of cancer and so many other tragic situations. Yet our prime minister chose to visit his family on the weekend, for Father’s Day, breaking all lockdown laws. For Father’s Day when there are people who can’t say goodbye to a dying parent! How dare he!

I have an invite to join a community choir in November, but I'm still debating. They do say that mask wearers and those wishing to social distance will be respected.

I was more than just a little nervous about the whole thing, too. But I was in such a low place emotionally that I simply needed something joyful, or I'd have gone mad.

I am so glad that you have got back to choir practice.

I have found that people here tend to space themselves out almost as second nature now, and although some vaccinated people have still caught covid they are mainly not very ill, so there is definitely a sense that we are going to get on with things with just this giving of space and having open doors and windows.

There may well be a change again once the children are back at school and the weather gets colder, but I think, at the moment I would certainly take the risk that you have.

Yeah, I kept the option open to take a break, should the numbers start climbing dramatically again, but for the moment it was a wonderful experience.
