Preferably soon. Preferably before the big house insulation breaks lose next week or the week after, with the additional stress and noise and general mayhem it causes. I'm at the end of my tether. Today I even snapped at Mum; admittedly, not without reason, but still... The cabin fever, the monotony, the same sh*t every day (or Alltagstrott, as the Germans would say)... I won't be able to take it much longer.

The problem is, I don't really think there would be a rat's chance to change any of it. *sigh*

Sorry that I had to laugh when I read about the ´snap at mum´ thing, because I did that quite often. Mums are a challenge when older, which does not make us love them less, but still....I fear that the renovation work will wear both of you out with all that noise and dust. Then again, when the houses in the street where my parents lived got renovated it was not that bad at all. But I´d never have had the guts to leave the flat with so many people scrambling about on the scaffold.

Well, based on the job they did on the other building, they will be at least quick. I hope not too quick, though; this supposed to solve the leaking problem: both the balcony where the water comes in and generally the walls where the heat goes out during winter.

As for leaving the house or not... it isn't as if I'd have many choices. Some things just need to be done and I'm the only one to do them.

Yeah, I know exactly what your talking about.
Esp. as I may have to cancel my Spain trip and I'm not amused.
(Spain is high risk, going back to Germany I'd have a lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through and my employer isn't happy about employees travelling to high risk countries.)

I'd be deliriously happy with a one-day-trip to Vienna, too. Or to St. Pölten. Unfortunately, even if I didn't have Mum to consider, they won't let me in. I'm a pariah with a Russian vaccine in my veins, which isn't approved in the EU. *insert curse words*

Poor sweetheart. I remember the stress of caring for Mum and the fear of going anywhere too far in case something happened.

Exactly! It isn't so as if I wouldn't do it willingly... it's just too stressful sometimes.

I feel for you! Hope when the work is finally finished, the balcony will be permanently fixed. Then, it will have been worth it.
