My friend Evie and I planned to go to a discount craft shop that's fairly close to us; only that it's in the back yard for some enormous industrial/cargo area, and it takes forever to walk back there. However, Evie has a car, with which we can reach the container (in which the shop is situated) in five minutes, tops.

But then Evie had to work yesterday like a pack horse to help her husband tear down part of their fence that has to make room for a new road built in front of their house. So she was fairly dead by the evening and we decided to postpone the trip for tomorrow... unless something happens again. I hope it won't. *fingers crossed*

Using the time thus freed for me, I made the first food run of the week, mostly for mineral water, ginger ale, ice cream and the likes. Okay, I bought potatoes and bread and some cold cuts as well... and exactly two apples. Apples are ridiculously expensive this year. More so than generally everything else. *sigh*

There's talk about us getting a third Covid jab at the end of August. I'll believe it when I see it. Hopefully we'll get a slot that will be doable in spite of the big renovation insanity taking place at the same time.

What else? No writing today, but I've finished the page bases to I's baby book. Now I can start with the embellishments, folded cards, pockets and whatever else I think of until November.

Oh yes, and it's hot again. 35°C, apparently. Well... still better than thunderstorms, right?

Good on you getting some of the heavy lugging out of the way. Man, I was just complaining about the price of apples the other day, too. With luck you can still get reasonably discounted ones but that needs a lot of luck/waiting. No idea why they of all things are so expensive this year.

I hope the trip works out for you tomorrow. Gotta get these things out of the way while restrictions are lifted (I need to find the time for a trip downtown, too)

I'm afraid we really ought to hurry up with the non-essential stuff as long as it is still possible.

Definitely. Numbers are climbing slowly but steadily and by now we all know how exponential growth works...

Oh yeah and here we are also having talk of third jab, though it currently looks like the BionTech folks (which both I and parents received) will only get one for risk groups. Politicians aren't too happy at the prospect of splurging for another round.

It always gets down to the money, doesn't it? I don't want to unjustly accuse anyone, but I have the nagging suspicion that Sputnik wasn't accepted by western countries because western pharmaceutical firms lobbied against them, wanting everyone to buy their vaccine. Even if they weren't able to produce enough and more people would have died in the meantime.

Yeah, definitely. Lobbyism and also political reasons, of not wanting to admit that Russia was both first at something AND did a good job with it (since the line they used to explain away that Russia was months ahead of us in producing a working vaccine was that ours takes longer but it will be reliable, unlike the ever so dangerous Russian one) Then they couldn't backtrack on that...

Back in late spring, there was actually a lot of pressure here by state politicians to buy Sputnik, with some wealthier states even saying they would buy and fund it themselves if the national government won't, but states don't have the authority to get it authorized for use, and neither the European nor the national level would give an emergency permit.

A third jab already? Here they are still discussing this.

Thanks for keeping the heat with you! 😉

Believe me, I´d love the heat while I can totally do without thunderstorms. A third jab will be in order for all of us soon., the sooner the better. More and more it becomes aopparent that all the vaccines do not work the way they should.

The baby book is coming along really well by the sounds of it! All the little extras sound so cute too! I hope today you get to the craft shop. Craft shops are the best!

A third jab already? That’s great. Australia has screwed up the vaccination rollout so grievously that while I’ve had both vaccinations due to health concerns, my son has not even received one and may not be vaccinated by the year’s end! I believe the Washington Post actually used Australia as an example of how NOT to do a vaccine rollout. The only positive in this all is that hopefully our incompetent prime minister will never be voted in again.
35 degrees? Ugh, too hot. We’ve been cold here, the nights around 1 degree or 0. Unusual for our coastal Melbourne.

Don't be so certain. It has been my experience that there are more idiots in every country than one would imagine — and they always choose one from their own rows.

Honestly I'd take thunderstorms over the heat any day. But I can understand how you dont want to have to deal with your balcony leaking.

So far, no third shot recommended here. I just recently got the first one, and will get the 2nd on Aug 12. Covid cases are the highest in our state since March, not good news. The governor has suggested that everyone wear a mask indoors, including those who have been vaccinated, but that is not mandatory. I wear a mask, regardless.

I've got the feeling that the whole third jab thing is just smoke and mirrors. First it was said that one could register for it in the second half of the month, now it's said that one can't do it any longer — for whatever reason.
