Survived the bi-weekly cleaning. Gah, I hated it - as always. And I didn't even manage to dust the bookshelves, which I usually do. Mum wanted the balcony being thoroughly scrubbed today, which meant a lot of furniture being moved around and other sh*t like that.

But... unexpectedly, common sense triumphed over the nay-sayers, and our building will get isolated, after all. Which means (I tentatively hope so) no more leaking balcony. They expressly asked whether our balcony is leaking, and promised that the people who do the whole isolating and renovating thing will look into it. *fingers crossed*

Of course, it is possible that I'll lose my satellite dish in the process. Placing it on the roof (8 levels above our flat) was allowed by the previous bunch that ran things for the building, and the new guys may have something against it. It will be a bugger to lose it after nearly 30 years, but the advantages (no more heating the street through the walls and no more leakage) outweigh the losses by far.

It will cost a pretty penny, of course. But since we haven't been able to go on holidays in the last three years, we'll be able to afford it.

Aaaaah I'm so glad there is finally hope for your leaking balcony! Losing the satellite dish would indeed be worth it just for that eternal agony to end. Fingers crossed it will get fixed for real this time!

That sounds like good news. Can I just check that your building will be insulated not isolated.

Dammit, I'll never get this dratted language right. Whenever I think I've finally figured out how it works, something like this happens! Grrrr!

Yeah, I know the feeling of being baffled by one's mother tongue. Hungarian has some pretty inconsistencies, too.

Finally! A leaking balcony surely is hell! Of course, with fine weather problems seem to be non existent. But since we always have heavy thunderstorms it must be like sitting on a ticking bomb!

I don't think I ever asked ... do you own your apartment or do you rent?

Mum is the actual owner, but we share the costs of living.

You have to pay for the renovation and not your landlord? I thought you lived in an apartment building. Do you live in a condominium?

We do live in an apartment building, but practically everyone has bought their apartment some thirty years ago.

Oh! I guess that way you don't have to worry about your rent going up.

Hope you actually get the balcony leak fixed this time, and that the satellite dish can stay.
