This Friday didn't really like me

Actually, it started yesterday already. I finally decided to buy some local strawberries because I hoped that they'd actually have some taste. Don't ask about the price; it still makes me blanch. Anyway, local strawberries were pretty and smelled heavenly - and had no taste at all.

Which meant, today was jam-making day again. Only that my jam that usually turns out perfect, refused to get properly thick. It remained almost liquid. I foresee, many more impromptu trifles in the foreseeable future, as I still have at least four portions of leathery sponge in the freezer, and I can use the liquid jam instead of jelly. Problem solved, but the price of it was... painful.

Then I decided to apply the self-adhesive fabric to Theo's cooking book. Have you ever worked with self-adhesive fabric from Crelando? My advice would be: don't! Admittedly, covering relatively large surfaces with self-adhesive anything is a daunting task, but this one definitely put the D into "daunting". Not only was it extremely thin, it was also impossible to remove the protective paper layer from it; plus, it came in a tight roll and curled up every other second. I managed to apply it, in the end, but the result is far from what I've hoped for. Ah, well, perhaps a six-year-old won't mind a few wrinkles in the fabric. *fingers crossed*

Other than that, we had a visit from the physiotherapist and I spent a long, joyless hour with cleaning up the kitchen. Jam-making and custard-cooking produces astonishing amount of dirty dishes, and washing-up is evil. Now that I've washed up and put away everything, down to the smallest coffee spoon, we've just had supper - and the kitchen sink is half-full again. From a cold supper. I don't know how we manage to do that. *sigh*

I hadn't made cake in over a year so I forgot how many dishes it dirties up until I made one several days ago to take to my friends' house now that we're all caught up on our shots.

Lemon juice ... when your jam doesn't set. The fruit is missing pectin.

Actually, I think I've overdone the lemon juice part. Never added this much to so little jam. Perhaps the strawberries were simply too watery or whatnot. Ah, well, we'll eat it in some form or another anyway.

And yeah, dishes seem to multiply when you turn your back on them, even if only for a few minutes!

Jam is such a pain to get off any surface. Sorry to hear about your strawberry woes. It is difficult to find good ones. I find our UK ones sweeter, but they are also more expensive.

You are so right! This year´s local strawberries taste not one iota better than imported ones. They cannot have grown on a field, because the weather has been way to cold till now. And greenhouse products always taste the same...

Strawberries are usually cheap here, as they grow well in our state. In fact, there is a town about 30 minutes away that bills itself, "The Strawberry Capital of the World". When I was younger, I believed that, lol. Strawberries are not my cup of tea, but my husband loves them. They are a pretty fruit though.

Sigh — Anything I buy with adhesive backing usually never peels away as intended. I used to work a lot with plexiglass sheet scraps. Getting the backing paper off was many times a total nightmare. The same with price tags. I recently bought an expensive ceramic dish. You would think the price tag would be placed on the gloss finish, instead, they stuck it on the unglazed, rough base. So now, I can't get rid of the "sticky". I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been to make that cover!

Have you tried nail varnish remover? Or would it damage the dish?
