Just tired
May. 15th, 2021 07:04 pmBut again, I can barely remember the time when I wasn't this tired all the time. And I'm not even working anymore!
Boring stuff behind the cut.
Today I was very heroic, though. Stood up only half an hour later than originally planned and actually made that food run - well, two different food runs - I chickened out of yesterday. The fact that it was a warm, sunlit morning certainly helped. I went to two different supermarkets and to a drugstore, each of from I only needed a few items... which, unfortunately, I couldn't get in any of the other stores. Rare, exotic items like ginger ale, toilet paper that doesn't tear before even used, a certain (cheap) lotion that we use for Mum's legs, mineral water... things like that.
The annoying part is that - for example - 4 bottles of mineral water and ginger ale are already considerably heavy, so I won't drag them with me to the next stop. Meaning that I had to come home from Lidl and drop off my shopping before getting off again to go to the other supermarket (where I only bought a salad and a few boxes of matches that Lidl doesn't sell) and the Chinese drugstore where I can get cosmetics and cleaning stuff much cheaper. We're not exactly poor, but we have to manage on two old-age pensions, so it matters how much I pay for the same product.
Today was also laundry day, and I had to cook something, so it was about 4pm when I managed to sit down and catch my breath. Housework is such a thankless, mind-numbing activity!
Consequently I didn't get to work on Little Emma's quiet book today. It's frustrating that I'm so close to finishing it and yet something always interferes. Those women on YouTube make the page bases of cotton and with a sewing machine, in about five minutes. My page bases, though, are made of hard felt and I don't use Louise for them because:
a) I'm unable to save in a straight line with a sewing machine, while by hand it goes reasonably well, assuming I've drawn the line with the help of a ruler and a felt pen in advance, and
b) poor Louise isn't up to the challenge of sewing through four layers of hard felt. No sewing machine can do that, especially not such a 20cm by 20cm baby.
So, my own fingers have to do the deed. But to be able to concentrate on making nice, even stitches I need time and a bit of peace. Both of which have become true rarities in our house. Still, I have 5 weeks left to bind a 4-page felt book... hopefully, it will be enough. I need to finish this to start Theo's birthday present (which will be a children's cooking book; a paper one, for sure, but hand-made, with lots of recipes and illustrations), and his birthday is in September already.
Too much to do, too little time to do it! And I'd like to do some writing from time to time, too!
