Documented minor baking disaster for you to laugh:

It is yummy, though...

That is one word for it, yes. :)
The funny thing is, I've already made it once, and then it was like this:

I've no idea what went wrong this time. IIRC, I did everything just like last time. *sigh*

It does look like it needs to be stuffed luxuriously with whipped cream, cherries and broken meringues, Eton Mess stylee.

Eton Mess is a classic English summer dessert. Would work well with your dodgy strawberries and is soft enough for a nice treat for mum. Might be worth a try. (https://www.thespruceeats.com/eton-mess-the-classic-summer-dessert-435893)

Oh, I see. Thanks. Although whipped cream and meringues aren't something Mum would eat willingly. *g*

Well, yes, I seem to have a bit of an unlucky streak lately where baking is concerned. :(

When I bake a cake it is always one with the centre jutting out like Mount Everest. Maybe yours wanted to be a caldera?

More like the Vesuvius — with molten lava blubbering under the crust of its rather respectable peak. *g*
It was jutting out all right, only that the crust was broken in several places and the inside of the cake, well, to put it mildly, semi-liquid...

As you can tell, I am not a baker. The cake looks fine to me, and delicious!

The parts that actually baked through were a bit dry, but we ate it anyway. ;)
