My Turkish flatbread...
Apr. 27th, 2021 06:11 pm... turned out exceptionally well. Working with yeast is always a bit tricky, you can never be sure how it would react (and no matter what Paul Hollywood says, fresh yeast always works better), but this time my dough was like a dream. It literally climbed out of the bowl. *g* And the baked results were most satisfactory.
The (not-so-)flatbreads in their natural state:

And the bigger of them filled with soft cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and tuna:

It is hard to imagine that the thing started off the size of my palm (without the fingers). Mum and I had it for lunch with leftover soup, but together we could only manage half of it. Which means that I won't have to cook tomorrow! Yay!
I also went and bought yarn for the vest I want to knit. Well... my friend Erna will probably contribute a lot to it, but it is a step in the right direction. The old rag I'm wearing when I'm cooking or cleaning the flat or whatnot will have to serve for another year or two, I presume. ;)

Date: 2021-04-28 05:17 am (UTC)These past few weeks have been a bit crazy. First, we had a week of stormy weather β sheets of rain, hail, high winds, tornado threats and a power outage. Not only was it scary, it left our yard a complete mess. Dear husband will need to take a few days off to pick up all the debris. As if that was not enough, the Ligustrums (fast growing, ugly, hedge-like trees) started blooming and spreading pollen everywhere. My allergies and (unrelated) Acid Reflux went out of control, so I made an appointment with my ENT doctor. While there, I asked for a hearing test, since both my son and husband complain they have to scream for me to hear them. I also cannot hear the TV without closed captions --- heheh, telling. As expected, I qualified for hearing aids in both ears, but the right hearing loss was significantly worse than the left. Apparently, asymmetrical hearing loss is a red flag for benign tumors of the brain. So, my doctor scheduled a brain MRI. I've had a breast MRI before, so wasn't too worried about the test, except, of course, the results. The nurse called a few days later to ask required medical history questions, one of which was, am I claustrophobic? I asked her if the MRI machine was the open type or the more scary tunnel version (like shown in all the medical dramas). She said it was the latter and asked if I would need a script for anxiety medication. Geez, I wasn't worried about claustrophobia until she mentioned that, so I opted for "YES". Bob drove me to the medical center and I had the scan done. The machine was not the scary one, so could have skipped the meds. Which, by the way, knocked me for a loop! I felt fine during the test. But once home, I passed out on the bed and did not wake until morning β potent stuff! Dear husband and son were left to fend for themselves for dinner.
Considering my age, I guess it is that time for things start to breaking down. During the no dentist period of the Covid-19 lock-down, I lost the fillings in 5 teeth, which promptly crumbled. Therefore, I have 5 teeth that need to be removed and a partial denture thingy created with fake teeth to replace them. That business was already on the burner. So was eye surgery, as both of my eyes have cataracts and I can't see, especially when driving. So, that is teeth, eyes, and now, ears plus a few other minor issues. Unfortunately, insurance only covers the eye surgery, so I must pay out of pocket for the dental and hearing devices, cha-ching. The good news out of all of this, is I got the MRI results back on Friday β everything looks normal β yay! So, peace of mind is back also. Maybe by the end of the year, I will once again be able to see, hear, and chew β progress, tee-hee. Again, sorry for being out of touch.
