I did the weekly laundry today. I also made two food runs because the fridge was empty and we didn't even have a drop of milk or a morsel of bread in the house. That's what happens when outside forces bring me out of my well-established weekly schedule.

Then I decided to make spargel ragout as today I found asparagus at Lidl. A first for the year. Granted, it was outrageously expensive but asparagus season is so short and we both love the thing. Unfortunately, when I was frying my chicken breast pieces, the saucepan decided to make a nose-dive to the floor and scattered the rag rug Mum insists to have in the kitchen with meat pieces and liquid butter. Joy! So I also had to was the rug afterwards - something I so hadn't planned for this already busy day!

In the end, by the time I finished cooking neither of us had any appetite for a cooked meal. So we ate the cheesy buns from yesterday and some of the sponge cake with the strawberry jam and the eggnog cream and had coffee to it. Grandma presumably rolled in her grave, but I was really drained. We'll eat the spargel ragout tomorrow. And the day after. And probably the day after that, too, since it yielded quite the amount.

Not much else happened. Housework ate my Saturday. And people wonder why I hate it so much!

Some days are just cursed. *nodnod*
As a rule I never leave food runs for Saturday as it's laundry day, which is bad enough. But during the week I was permanently hindered in following my well-established schedule and, well, this was the result. *sigh*

I like how the Spargel Ragout was grounded for not behaving and you'll eat it next day.

Well, somebody ought to teach the damn thing manners! Besides, this way I won't have to cook for two days, which is always a win. :)

Asparagus here is not so expensive now that the number of market stalls is skyrocketing. Meat on the floor is never good, but it happens if you are in a hurry. You definitely have too much on your agenda!

It certainly feels like that sometimes, but what can I do? The only way out is the way through, since there isn't anyone else to do it.

You know, the thing I could really use would be someone to come over and stay with Mum for a couple of hours. There wouldn't be anything they'd actually need to do; Mum is pretty mobile by now and if one escorts her to the loo so that she feels safe along the hall everything is okay. I'd love to go to the hairdresser's and do the shopping on my way home without looking at my watch every twenty minutes and call home every thirty to see if Mum is still in one piece. Just three or four hours of peace once in every other month would be a blessing. But it isn't gonna happen. *sigh*

I hear you, re housework. I am currently trying not to see my living room carpet, in hopes that the fairies will come in and vacuum it.
