Laundry day us usually Saturday in our family. But I spent yesterday morning with the Früchtebrot from Hell and was completely drained afterwards, so I postponed doing the laundry for today. Not for the first time. And - also not for the first time - I swore never to do it again. *sigh*

I also spent lots of time with putting together a large bowl of muesli; cutting and grating the fruits can take forever, but the result is worth it. I then made apple soup, which included even more cutting of apples, of course, and with that and the laundry half the day was gone.

Around 1pm my friend Evie dropped by to collect her quarter of the infamous Früchtebrot. We sat in the opposite ends of my room, wearing our masks (granted, I'm properly vaccinated now, but being careful never hurts) and talking. When we realized how much time had gone by, it was nearly 3pm, and I haven't cooked lunch yet.

Once Evie left, Mum and I opted for ejecting the salad from the lunch menu as it would have taken forever to make - cutting vegetables into small enough pieces so that Mum can eat them is really time-consuming. I'll make it with couscous and scrambled eggs tomorrow.

So I made a bastardized version of honey chicken, taken from a Chinese cookbook for dummies, since it was done in about ten minutes. The washing-up afterwards was postponed because we watched the VIP edition of the Great German Bake-Off, so it was already half past 6 when we got to do Mum's exercises. Then I washed up again and was about done in for the day.

Over at [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo someone saw it as their sacred duty to correct me for saying that days are getting shorter. Sometimes I wonder if people really think me such an idiot? I meant my days are getting shorter with the to-do-list getting longer, but they found it necessary to link their comment to some website where they supposedly explain for idiots that the days are actually getting longer. I know I shouldn't work myself up over such things, but it's really annoying.

Anyway, that was my highly uninteresting day, with at least a bit of social contact but with no creative activities whatsoever. I miss those terribly. *sigh*

Why does the laundry take so long? (I wonder if I am a ghastly slob as mine is pretty easy, even without a dryer.)

Mum insists on soaking things first, which takes about an hour. Also, I have to weigh the stuff as the washing machine can't deal with more than 5 kgs of clothes. Then I have to load the machine. Then it runs its cycle, which is roughly an hour. Then I have to hang up everything... you're getting the picture, I presume. And besides, I'm probably dreadfully slow anyway. *sigh*

Some people are only happy if they're irritating others.

Sadly, that is true. In all the years since I've been participated in [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo, I never saw a single comment from this person — but now they show up and play the know-it-all...

*hugs* It sounds like a frustrating day! Especially the pico-brain idiot on picowrimo. I'm glad you got to see Evie, and impressed by how much you are doing to make things manageable for your Mom. *hugs*

I hope your days improve and get better every day! &heart;

Thank you. Things are going as smoothly as possible under the circumstances, I'm just so ridiculously tired, most of the time. One might be sweet sixteen in the heart of one's hearts, but the old bones won't let that illusion last too long.

I try not to do any housework on Sundays ...
But if needs be ...
Laundry can take too much time.

It is the small things that are not so hard in themselves but eat up all your time...

Talking with friends in your own home? Oh, how I miss those days. Maybe this Christmas.

I cherish these moments very much. Especially as they are so rare.

I wish you were here to give husband mine a good tongue lashing. To him cutting vegetables or fruits or preferably both is nothing to speak of. Only that he and daughter want their vegetables cut into tiny peaces. And if we have full house (5+1), which happens about twice a week, cooking takes up half of the morning. The rest is for domestic duties. There are better ways to spend a day...

Perhaps you should offer them the wonderful chance to cut their own vegetables into the pieces they prefer? *g*
But if we get the chance, I'm certainly willing to give him a piece of my mind. My German is good enough to be really, really nasty.;))

It's the vacuuming/sweeping that I absolutely despise. Any other cleaning chores, even dusting, I don't mind. Then again, laundry used to be relaxing before my old washer and dryer died. We got new ones a few years ago. Now, it takes all day just to wash bed linens (1 bed), which using the old machines took about an hour per bed to both wash and dry. Yeah, the new machines use less water, energy, and heat. But they don't clean or dry clothes worth cr*p, take forever to go through their cycles, and eat socks and bindings on blankets. Not too mention, they are frightfully expensive. So, laundry day is now somewhat of a chore too.

Not to mention that they're constructed so that they'd die a couple of years after you've bought them.
