Early post is early because we're planning to watch the German version of the GBBO in the evening. ;)

We had a busy day again - and the end isn't even in view yet! But it was a good kind of busy, for a change, so I'm not complaining.

I've managed to put in the last line of sewing in the ladybird page. I also fastened it to the penultimate page (the mermaid one) and pinned on the seaming. That's the next step; and after that comes the binding, which is a particular joy and delight every time - NOT! Still, I'm beginning to hope that I might actually finish this project in time.

We had another highly suspicious, masked meeting in front of the building today. Monica, our choir conductor, came by and dropped off a bag full of apples. She and her husband are also prone to stomach problems and cooked apples help them, too, every time, so she wanted us to have enough raw material. She's very kind and likes Mum a lot. She also brought greetings and well-wishes from a couple of other colleagues, which was nice.

She actually had a good night, slept through almost completely, which is a rare thing for her anyway. In the morning she felt so good that she took the risk of eating some soup for the first time in almost a week. Well... now she has heartburn again. It is possible that the soup doesn't have anything to do with it, but we simply don't know. *sigh*

In the early afternoon my cousin came by and brought a temporary rubber foam mattress, until the actual one arrives. It is too long and not wide enough, but we got creative and managed somehow. It's only for a week or so anyway, until the permanent mattress arrives, but even until then, Mum might lie a bit more comfortable. Or so we hope. *fingers crossed*

Good that you got a temporary mattress solution! I hope it works out as hoped for/intended.

I am glad she had a good night. And that she now has an improved bed even if still not exactly right.

Also — are you able to get something like Fortisip or Ensure drinks through your doctor? They seem to be horribly expensive otherwise, but here they are prescribed if someone is not up to eating enough calories following surgery, or similar. My friend's husband had them for quite a while; we discovered you could make a sort of pseudo-icecream from them and he would happily eat it.

Never heard of those, I'm afraid. We'll see what the surgeon says to the physiotherapist lady.

I know that older people tend to drink less than they should so that no accidents will happen, but that´s one of the biggest problems with heartburn. Hooray for the temporary mattress!

I'll try to apply some mild pressure in the drinking area. *g*

Glad you've got a temporary mattress to help, but I do wish the heartburn would go away.

So do I. We'll just have to experiment and find out by trial and error what can she eat safely.

It seems to... to a certain extent. But it's just a temporary solution, and I hope the actual, final mattress will be even better.

I know there's a Great Irish Bakeoff and a Great Australian Bakeoff but I didn't know there was a Great German Bakeoff!

Good news re the mattress hack. My Mum nearly always used two mattresses, because of back problems. The only problem I found with that is that the edges were very soft when sitting before standing. Maybe a board between the two would help...just on the edge. I don't know, because Mum seemed to cope.

Well, it works better than the multiple layers of duvets and removable armchair upholstering we used until now. *g*

Hope the doctor can help with your Mum's heartburn, sleep is healing in itself. At least, she had one good night's rest before the heartburn returned. Best of luck with the temporary mattress.

We got something prescribed by the family doctor against the heartburn. I'll fetch it from the pharmacy tomorrow and cross all available appendages that it will indeed help.
