Creative pains
Jan. 20th, 2021 09:30 pmI've worked on the bird house page of Little Emma's quiet book all morning. This is a page where practically all elements are made of hard felt, and sometimes I had to sew two or three layers together, not to mention the Velcro patches and other joys. So, while I've made decent progress, I'll likely have to take a break of a day or two from the project because my fingers hurt like hell. Even using the computer mouse is uncomfortable. *sigh*
Still, I'm happy to have made as much as I have: the tree with the hole for the owl and the foilage is fixed in their space. Only the small details left to do now. Like five or so bird houses, the grass, the individual leaves and so on. At least the birdies themselves are ready-made, although I still have to sew on the press studs to their backs as well as to the bird houses. Unless I choose to use Velcro again, which I'd like to avoid if I can. My poor fingers definitely hate the idea of Velcro.
The rest of the day was lazy. We didn't have to cook (hurrah for leftovers), and although Mum did quite a bit of cleaning while I was wrestling felt and Velcro into obedience, we both found ourselves in front of the telly half the afternoon, watching re-runs of the GBBO and Cake Boss, several episodes in a row. It will soon be continued with Paul Hollywood's Puds and Pies, which we love. Actually, we love just about everything featuring Paul Hollywood. *g*
I also did a tiny bit of typing up; just a page or two, due to aching fingers, and I had lovely phone chats with H (Little Emma's grandmother) and Monica (our choir director). Yay for social life!
And since I won't be able to sew much tomorrow, it will be the day when I give Paul Hollywood's iced buns a try. Without the disgustingly thick layer of icing on top, that is. Neither Mum nor I like icing much. So it will be just the strawberry jam and the Chantilly creme. If I don't butcher the whole thing beyond help, that is.

Because I'm getting caught up with your posts, I've already read about the iced buns! Yummy!

Date: 2021-01-22 06:13 pm (UTC)Years ago, I bought wax for making candles by the case from a nearby craft store, but then it closed. I had to go to a store on the other side of town which required a 15 minute highway drive. And it was much more expensive. And too costly to ship in the pre-free-shipping era.
Maybe you will be able to find a good supplier online. I hope so!

Date: 2021-01-22 08:58 pm (UTC)I mean, I'm not completely hopeless; if someone navigates me through the moves and looks over my shoulder for the first couple of times I eventually can learn how to do such things, but these days aren't suited for that. Besides, very few people have the patience to actually teach one things. They just do it for you because it's faster that way, and next time you're every bit as clueless again.
