I've lost my satellite TV today. Just like that, while switching between channels. One moment everything was fine and dandy, the next moment everything was gone.

I leaned out the window as much as I dared and I'm almost certain that the reason is not that some idiotic resident cut my cable (that hangs 8 floors down from the top of the house). I'll check again tomorrow when I go to the shops because one can't tell it from the inside for sure.

If that isn't the cause (which I hope, as if it is, it could be done again and again and again), there could be two different causes left:
a) some part of the satellite dish died, either the receiver itself or the cable broke, both of which has happened before, and
b) they're recalibring the ASTRA satellite, which has also happened before, although last time I had at least two channels working.

Now, I hope against hope that it's the latter, as it would mean thing would straight themselves eventually. If not, I'll have to hunt down service guy and hope that he can actually fix the satellite dish/cable/whatever. Which will be very expensive, but I still hope it will be doable.

Mum's media box has been acting up lately, too. When it switches into the Off position during the night (or during inactive day hours), I can only switch it on again if I pull the plug first and wait for a minute. I can certainly do that (although Mum would be hopelessly overtasked to find the right plug), but what if the trip stops working? Crap telly is the only thing poor Mum still has as entertainment, since reading has become too hard on her weakening eyes. I am not happy.

Also, I don't know what's up with LJ right now. It keeps loading and loading every page, even if all the stuff is visible already. It's still doing it while I'm typing this post - let's hope it will post it, too. It did post my comments to other people's journals under the same circumstances, but, you know, it's always a case of good luck...

Otherwise, it was a blank day. No phone calls, no e-mails, no text messages. I did a bit of writing and cooked lunch, but other than that... Oh, and yesterday I worked on Little Emma's quiet book a bit. Four felt eggs with chickens innit are finished!

Blank days seem to become common. I will have to take up knitting again, as some of my friends have. Combination of boredom and the cold outside is a bad one. I still have to thank you for the cookie recipes. German works perfectly fine by me. I wonder why things like TV and entertainment media always die at bleakest times! My TV died on the day before Christmas Eve, and it was hard to get a new one because of lockdown number two it was rhen..

If it weren't for writing, baking and crafting, I'd have gone strong, bonking mad already. *sigh*
I'll be happy to exchange cookie recipes with you if you want more. I'd even translate Grandma's classics for you. After all, I used to live from teaching German and making translations while still actively working. ;)

At some point I must have lost the connection to down-home cooking. To me it's easier to do an extravagant curry than a local dish. Blame my friend, whose parents had an Indian restaurant...Baking hasn't been a favourite of mine until Corona became to take over our life, and crisis is far from over, like it or not. If you won't mind I'd love to visit your journal more frequently, to get new ideas...

Honestly, I don't count on it. But there are always the DVDs I bought with the intent to binge-watch them and never did.
If I had to choose I'd wish for Mum's telly to work.

Well, that’s annoying. Hopefully both of your TVs will function again.

Mum's chose to behave last night - allowed me to switch it on without problems - but I don't know if it has righted itself or just happened to have a good day.

Not really, no. I just hope at least Mum's media box will hold out a bit longer.

We have quite a lot of DVDs and I have downloaded some series from youtube and dailymotion rather than just watch them from there. I'm planning to do some knitting and crochet this year, as soon as I remember to go and buy wool (I have patterns, I have needles, I know how to, well knit...)

Sis is making biscuits to give away right now, the house smells of anzacs and it is glorious...

I had to google anzacs; never heard of them before. They sound yummy but, of course, you won't get golden syrup (or, in fact, any other kind of treacle) over here, so I won't be able to give it a try.

I'd like to re-learn knitting. My abilities have always been limited in this area but I've managed to forget what little I ever knew of it. And I'm in a desperate need of a new, loose knitted vest.

People ask me why I buy DVD's, instead of streaming everything. This is why. At least, if something goes wrong with the net service, I have something decent to watch. That sounds like an extremely frustrating day, and I hope things are sorted out soon.

I have a large heap of DVDs as well, and if help doesn't come soon, I'll watch them. However, live TV is always more of a background noise for me; I have it run while I dust the shelves or solve crossword puzzles or whatnot, so that I won't forget how to speak German.

I'm just the opposite from you guys, my TV's work fine, but not my Dvd players. First, the drawer/tray stops opening and then they go downhill from there. I can't play any of mine. ;0(
So frustrating when things we take for granted break or malfunction.

Especially when they are the things that keep us sane.
