... otherwise known as same old, same old.

Okay, at least I slept in today. All 30 or so minutes of it. But it felt still good. This was the first day for... well, for a very long time that I didn't even set my alarm. I thought: hey, it's New Year, let's celebrate by sleeping in! *g*

I had three very nice phone calls from friends. Mum had her own three, too. So, in that matter, the new year started off well. We ate leftovers for lunch (so what's new?), and I actually brought up the energy to dig out my Primeval DVDs, so that I could finally make some headway with "Timescapes". Wrote about three hand-written pages; it will be slightly less when typed up, but I'm happy nonetheless. I hope this means I've burst the knot that was stopping my progress with that particular story, at least for a while.

Not much else happened. As it's a holiday, all TV programmes I like to watch were replaced with highly uninteresting films or stupid "funny" programmes that are, as a rule, extremely unfunny. Thank God for GBBO coming up at 9pm. I really don't know what I'd be watching otherwise.

I hope the first day of the new year was a pleasant one for you folks, despite the fact that we've carried the problems of the previous year over with us. *hugs*

Sleeping in definitely sounds like a good start to the year.

Isn't it? Grandma used to say what you do on January 1, you'll be doing all year. I can live with that. *g*
Happy New Year to you and your loved ones as well!

Celebrating by sleeping in 30 minutes - you're a real party animal like myself :D

That is about as much party as I can bear, honestly. I like people, but in small groups, where you can still have decent conversations and no-one is getting shut out due to the simple fact that the room is too big and too many people are talking at the same time.

Sleeping in sounds like an excellent way to start the year.

When I read As it's a holiday, all TV programmes I like to watch were replaced with highly uninteresting films or stupid "funny" programmes that are, as a rule, extremely unfunny. I found I was glad to not be the only person who feels that about 'special programming'!

Honestly, the food channels like tv-paprika are the only ones worth watching in these days. Although we're planning to give "Cake Boss" a try tonight. There's only too much "Dr. Pimple Popper" a person can stomach on one day. *g*

Too many people can't make a difference between really funny and plain idiotic, I'm afraid.

TV here is either sitcoms or reality shows, both of which I hate, so aside from streaming sites, I've disabled the local and cable networks. Day one of the new year for us was quiet. We ate our ham, cabbage, and black-eyed peas (wisdom, prosperity/good fortune/wealth, health, etc. ), and lazed around. The weather for both Christmas and New Years was cold, so even though it was sunny, we stayed indoors.

I hate sitcoms with the passion of a thousand burning suns. I firmly believe that one has to be lobotomized to actually enjoy them. And the forced laughter in the background only makes them even more annoying.

There are a few reality shows that I like. On German TV there are the various incarnations of "On Patrol", showing the working of the police, the firefighters, the ambulances and so on with made-up stories. Not that I'd watch them with undivided attention. I usually have them run in the background while solving crossword puzzles, dusting the shelves or other such activities. *g*
