Today, heavy-duty baking was on the programme. I've made poppy seed-almond stars, nougat hearts, pistachio wreaths and café latte biscuits. The morning was spent with the baking alone; then I had to take a lengthy break because Mum wanted to iron and that can only be done in the kitchen.

In the late afternoon I did all the decorating; it was one hell of a job, but the outcome was fairly successful. (Photos tomorrow because there was no more natural light by the time I finished.) I'm a bit nervous about the café latte biscuits - that is, about the ganache that turned out too liquid, so it might not hold the biscuits together. It's my fault, at least partially: I added a teaspoon of strong espresso to the white chocolate/whipping cream mix, for a better taste. Perhaps I shouldn't have done it. But again, it might have turned out like this even without the coffee. Ah, well.

I had a phone chat with an ex-colleague. She told me the amusing story of how she and her mum have taken in a stray dog - which then gave birth to nine whelps, without warning. Fortunately, they found a good home for all the little doggies, but I can imagine that it must have been a shock. *g*

So, since I've already posted Chapter 13 of "Elvenhome" to AO3 I decided to be lazy for the rest of the day. Two episodes of the GBBO (old seasons) are due tonight on two different channels. It will be a delight to watch other people slave over a hot oven for a change. ;))

My Good Thing of the Day:

All four sorts of biscuits turned out as they were supposed to (well, save for the somewhat lopsided pistachio wreaths, but one shouldn't be ungrateful).

Who eats all these biscuits? You must be buried in them by now!

Friends, colleagues, neighbours. We only keep a small selection for our Christmas table, the rest will be given as Christmas gifts. Two large boxes are already gone. :)

I haven't done any Christmas baking, yet. But what I have done is wrap a ton of presents. I put up the tree today, too. We'll be decorating it tomorrow.

Over here we don't put up the tree until Christmas Eve. I haven't even bought one yet. Mum and I were thinking of investing into an artificial one, but I might end up with a real one after all, since they sell those right next to our building.

Ours is artificial. So much easier to deal with than live. Cheaper in the long run, too.

It does that. Perhaps the neighbours aren't really happy about it, but we are.

As I mentioned before, this is my consolation prize for all the things I can't have this Christmas. Like Christmas markets, Christmas concerts, going to Vienna, meeting family and the likes.

Wow, nine pups - that's a large litter! I can see why she was quite surprised. Good that they found homes for all. I am glad that your baked goods all turned out well, even the latte cookies of which you were in doubt. I am eating store brought Danish butter cookies at the moment, a splurge. They are quite popular here during the Christmas season, packed in a familiar blue tin. That's the only Christmas cookies we have had so far. Shame on me.
