aka "the day on which we met people".

We had an appointment with our talkative chiropodist lady, so that took care for the entire morning. No, really.

Then the exterminator came - he comes four times a year and sprays certain parts of the flat, especially the bath, the toilet and the kitchen, for preventive purposes. It is a good solution, as it has kept us vermin-free for decades.

After that, our conductor Monica dropped by shortly - well, we met in front of the building, actually - to collect the boxed Christmas cookies for herself and our friend Sandy. She also brought me a gift: two pounds of walnut kernels. That was very thoughtful of her, considering how expensive nuts are this year. Now I'm good for the next two years where walnuts are concerned.

It was one of those suspicious outdoor meetings, with two masked persons exchanging goodies. *g*

Other than that, the only event worth mentioning was the fact that I managed to inhale a mouthful of mineral water and nearly choked on it. I'm still coughing up water drops... that, or my windpipe is simply a bit roughed up from all that abuse. I hope for the latter. Pneumonia would be the last thing I needed right now. *sigh*

My Good Thing of the Day:

Well, I haven't suffocated, after all, so it's a good thing, right?
Oh, and I've got a review from [livejournal.com profile] jilba on AO3! I haven't heard from her literally in years, so I'm very happy to know that she's apparently doing well enough to read fanfic, at least.

It might sound funny, but there were moments when I was seriously afraid that I'd choke on that stupid mouthful of mineral water. My back hurts like hell from all that coughing and my entire chest is sore.

As for the walnuts, I'll likely freeze them in 200-gr-portions for later use. I still have some from last year and they keep in the freezer without any problems. Plus, this way the moths can't get into them. After having lost a month's salary's worth of various nuts once, I always freeze them. Of course, that leads to light space shortage in the freezer, but, well, that can't be helped.

2 kg of walnuts ... will they keep that long anyway?

Errr... one kg. That is two pounds, isn't it? I'm having difficulties with the measurements. It is one kg in any case.
And yes, they will keep, since I'll put them into the freezer. They can hold out there for years.

Nice to have a stash of walnuts... I bought some recently from the "Immigrant shop" along with some pomegranate syrup in the hope to make a Persian stew soon.

It was a thoughtful gift. Christmas cookies require quite a lot of various nuts, and they all are insanely expensive this year.

Thanks. I was close to panicking for a moment.

And yeah, extra nuts are good. I just wish I had a bigger freezer.

They keep better in the freezer?

Much better. Plus, should they have any moth's eggs in them, which happens, those die in the freezer and your resources remain safe.

That was one of your two days of rest? Doesn't sound that restful to me - winks. Swallowing the wrong way can be scary.

It is scary indeed. It happens to me fairly often, as my nose is partially stuffed most of the time and I am forced to breathe and swallow at the same time, but it is rarely so bad as it was this time.

And I didn't say anything about resting. I just said I would not bake today ;))

I love your description of a suspicious meeting. It sounds like something out of an old western movie.
