It has been lousy cold over here for the last week or so, but the central heating couldn't be started until they've applied the digital thingies that would measure how much heat we've consumed during heating season in every single one of the 420+ flats that belong to the same group.

Mind you, heating season (theoretically) started on September 15. They (theoretically) applied the digital thingies on August 28-31, of which they informed all flat owners two months in advance. Some of them still couldn't manage for somebody to open the flats for the tech guys, despite the fact that the memo clearly stated which time of the day they'll be on which level and the whole thing took, oh, about five minutes or so. Therefore everyone had to freeze their arses off, waiting for their digital thingies to be applied.

So far so good. Now that the thingies have been applied yesterday, we still had a night without heating. We dug out the winter duvets and the thick nighties. Then, this morning suddenly the heating started. For about two hours. Then the sun happened to shine directly onto the central thermostat, which then decided that it is too warm outside and shut down the heating again.

Mum and I were out to the grocery shops in the late morning, and it was indeed nice and warm outside. The flat, however, was still ice cold; the walls have conserved all the cold from the last week and the two hours of heating weren't enough to thaw them out. So we're back to sitting in double thermal socks and thick parkas and freezing our asses off.

Weather forecast promised 30°C for tomorrow and 28-29°C for Sunday. I'm curious what the weather will really be like...

I'm glad we live in our own house and we can turn on the heating whenever we want!

That must be nice. *sigh*
In general, I don't mind living in this oversized Plattenbau building. The flats aren't particularly big, but well divided into different areas, and it's good not to have to care for maintenance. It's just the times like this when I get annoyed.

Fortunately, the weather has turned quite pleasant for the moment. You can never know when it'll change, though.

I've never lived in a home where someone else controls the heating. They're not a thing in the UK. I think it comes down to the old saying about an Englishman's home being his castle. We like to be in charge of what goes on within our own four walls.

My central heating has been running, on and off, for a couple of weeks now.

Currently we have heating for a couple of hours in the night, but not much. The radiators are barely lukewarm.

Oh, Drat, I forgot to lock the entry! It wasn't supposed to be visitble until October 9! I'm nonetheless glad that you liked it. :)

We have our own heat, but my son and I have been fighting over the thermostat setting. His room gets the most sun, so is usually warm and mine faces north and is usually cold - :0( It gets old switching back and forth from A/C to heat.

You must have some spectacular fights, then. Ever thought about switching rooms? ;)
