Disclaimer: All Star Trek belongs to Gene Roddenberry and Viacom or whoever owns the rights at this moment. I don’t make any profit out of this – I wish I would, but I don’t, so suing me would be pointless.
This particular story is based on the similarly-titled story idea of Greg Strangis.
Time frame: 150 years after Star Trek – The Original Series, which means that we are in the 25th century.
Summary: The new adventures of the Labyrinth-class starship Enterprise (serial number NCC 1701-G), as originally envisioned by the Great Bird of the Galaxy, a.k.a. Gene Roddenberry himself.
CHAPTER 00: FOREWORD & SETTINGS
Everyone knows that TV-series seldom turn out to be the exactly same thing their creators have originally thought. Not even Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek – The Next Generation is an exception from this general rule. Fortunately, even though the authors of the actual series abandon them, sometimes these early concepts become known – and sometimes they are even more fun than the actual end product is.
While writing my Original Trek/Battlestar Galactica crossover series called “The Lost Years”, I already used concepts and story ideas that have been rejected during the realization of the original series. I’m doing the same thing with TNG-concepts now, and maybe one day I’ll find some to DS9 or Voyager as well.
Consequently, the main storyline of these episodes have been borrowed from rejected TNG screenplay concepts. Hence the episode titles. The additional storylines, however, are a product of my own fantasy. However, I have to mention here, that a few ideas were supplied by the one time chairwoman of the Official Hungarian Star Trek Club, who usually wrote under the pen name S. Duncan. I’m entitled to use these ideas in my stories. We had great fun bringing odd twists into the existing frame, respecting certain facts of the actual series, for example the timeline and in which season certain supporting characters appeared.
The background trivia listed below was the first actual series bible to TNG. I found it in some trivia book, and that was what actually triggered my imagination. What would have TNG been like if Roddenberry had kept the original bible? All right, I have modified the character bios a little. After all, this is meant as a parody.
Other than in “The Lost Years”, this series contain a good measure of playful disrespect. This is an AU and a rather silly one, so if you get easily insulted if someone makes fun of your favourite character, do us both the favour and hit the Back button. All the others: enjoy!
DRAMATIS PERSONAE (as they appear in Roddenberry’s original TNG-bible)
The ship:
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-G
A Labyrinth-class heavy cruiser, about six times the size of the original one.
Crew: 820, including family members
The Captain:
Julien Picard (yes, that was the original name), played by Patrick Stewart
The First Officer:
Commander William B. (Bonaparte) Ryker, played by Jonathan Frakes
The Second Officer (also Science Officer):
Lt. Commander Data, played by Brent Spiner
The Chief Medical Officer:
Dr. Beverly Crusher, played by Gates McFadden
The Kid Genius™:
Leslie Crusher, played by Mädchen Amick
(Yes, the Crusher kid was actually meant to be a girl by the other creators, but Roddenberry wanted to do a self-insert, so the kid became a boy, after all. Also, Leslie would have been 2 years older than Wesley was, which means she would have been 16 during Season 1.)
The Ship’s Counselor:
Natasha Yar, played by Denise Crosby
(It’s a well-known fact that originally Denise Crosby was meant to play the counselor; Roddenberry changed his mind when meeting Marina Sirtis in person.)
The Chief Pilot (and later Chief Engineer):
Lieutenant Geordi LaForge, played by LeVar Burton.
The Uber-Mom:
Commander Dorina Farcas, “played” by Nichelle Nichols.
(She is the only original character in the whole series. I needed her for a very specific reason. You’ll see why.)
The Security Chief:
Commander “Macha” Hernandez, played by Marina Sirtis
(The gruesome name is not my creation. The Security Chief was meant to be called thusly.)
The Transporter Chief:
Miles Edward O’Brien, played by Colm Meaney.
The Problematic Wife:
Keiko Ishikawa-O’Brien, played by Rosalind Chao.
The Token Vulcan:
Dr. Selar, played by Suzie Plakson.
(In this series, she is a regular character.)
The Faithful Sidekick:
Nurse Alyssa Ogawa, played by Patti Yasutake.
The Exotic Touch:
Lieutenant Worf, played by Michael Dorn.
(In this series, Worf remains tactical officer and Hernandez’ right-hand-man.)

Date: 2004-05-28 04:50 am (UTC)Actually, I'm glad I found a reason (or, more precisely, a person) to get my lazy rear in gear and finally translate this story for.
I agree with you about Picard's name, though - Jan-Luc does sound better. Although I must immer laugh when the English-speaking actors try to pronounce it... it's an utter disaster. German dubbing is better in this area, probably because they do have that strange little sound in Luc in their own language.
As for more, I'm currently typing up the last page for you. It'll be posted in half an hour or so. As I'm preparing lunch at he same time, things do go a little slowly. *g*
I'll do the character sheet eventually, as they are needed anyway. You'll be laughing your head off - when Duncan and I wrote them, that was the most evil fun. Poor Riker...
