Not much happened today, really. The weather couldn't make up its mind; it was basically hot (after a very cold night), and it rained for about 30 seconds, but that was, basically, it. I'm really afraid I might catch a cold because I'm sweating like a horse and when a slightly colder breeze hits me (through the window), I'm usually done in. Which is why I get a cold much more often during summer. Under normal circumstances that would only be annoying, but I'd hate to carry my germs to the shops in these times.

I decorated some matchboxes in the morning; just applying the outer cover. Have used up the pretty, sturdy Christmas paper (dark red with gold stars of different sizes) at the 11th one. So the next ones will be different, by default. Still have to decorate the insides and glue together the individual parts, but there isn't any hurry.

I also cooked lunch today: chicken wings with lemon, garlic and parsley. The original recipe would require coriander, but we don't use such fancy stuff; besides, they say it tastes of soap, so I think we were well off with the parsley instead. Mum cooked plum soup, and we still had half the cherry cake from yesterday, so it was what Grandma would call a proper Sunday meal. ;))

Mum and I are planning to go to the nearby Auchan supermarket tomorrow. Poor thing hasn't left the house since she took that fall three weeks ago, and I'd like to take her out for some fresh air before the plague peeks again. Which will, as soon as school re-starts.

Coriander is a thing you either love or hate. I don't think it tastes of soap. 🤔

I'm always afraid to catch a cold as well when I've got the a/c turned on.

I haven't had coriander in my life so far; the soap thing is what the TV chefs say every time someone overdoses it. *g*

There's a genetic variation in the way some people perceive taste that makes coriander leaves (we call them cilantro in the US) taste soapy to them. For most people they're a bit sharp and maybe lemony(?), it's a distinctive taste and nice if you like it. Used a lot in Mexican food! Parsley is a good substitute though.

When does school start up again? Are the school making special provisions for social distancing and so on?

They won't start until the 24th. I have no idea how it will be going, but I'm certainly glad I won't have any part of it.

Fresh coriander needs to be used in moderation. I don't find it soapy but it can be quite pungent!

Well, I never had it, so I'll have to take your word for it. :)

I like fresh coriander - but it seems as if a small percentage of people taste it very differently to others. This includes Angela Harttnet who is a well known chef in the UK - she always says she cannot give an unbiased opinion of food containing fresh coriander because she finds it soapy.

That does sound like a proper Sunday meal :)

This does seem to be the best time for your mother to get out for a little while. Like you I see the school going back as a recipe for increased cases.

My boxes are progressing much better now that I have decided to go for cubes instead of matchboxes. I had fun rummaging through Christmas papers yesterday.

I hope you will be able to get out today.

BTW, you can't catch cold from sweating and then getting chilled. it's caused by a virus, just like CV. That's what makes the damned thing so hard to treat. Just keep doing what you are doing with the CV protection and you should be fine from getting a cold, too.

Unfortunately, my 60-plus years of experience shows that I very much can get coughs and a funny nose when sweating and then chilling. *sigh*

I cannot begin to imagine the struggle to decorate the interior of a match box, at least that is how I would feel trying it. I've seen some of the ones you have made before and they came out great. Then again, I have never been good at "cut and paste", unless it is done on the computer.

These are medium-sized matchboxes - 5 cm by 7 cm - so the task isn't all that taunting. I've got a lot of scrap paper, stickers and the likes left over from previous projects, so this is also an effort to use up all that would land in waste otherwise.
