Odd things

Could harsh sunlight actually affect satellite television? Since this extreme heat has arrived, I'm almost incapable of watching my telly after 5 o'clock. While the channels come in all right during the night and in the morning, usually only one or two are available in the afternoon... and those come through the same frequency, as a rule. Since I've got my own satellite dish on the roof, there has to be some general effect up where it is - or at the satellite itself.

I just hope it doesn't mean that after a while the receiver will become totally useless. We barely have any German channels via the official Vodafone cable, and I need my German background noise, so that I won't forget the language entirely.

I hope the problem will be sorted soon. In the meanwhile I send virtual hugs to both of you.

I wish I could give you an answer for this, but I don't know. I wouldn't think it would have any effect on that, but I guess you can never tell.

I don't understand it, either. I've had this satellite dish for over 25 years and it never happened before.

Maybe it's worn out? I'm not really familiar with satellite dishes.

Well, I suppose extreme heat will make the metals expand at different rates, which might bork the connections. That's just a guess though.

I've discovered that the two or three channels I can still receive all come on the same frequency. Perhaps it's a selective error. In any case, I'll have to hunt down the service guy on Monday. *sigh*

Uh ... I don't no idea.
Hope it solves itself.

At least I can still watch 9live, Sat1 and Pro7. Hopefully, the service guy isn't on holiday right now.

When we still had a dish severe rainstorms affected our reception. But I've never heard sun could be problem. Maybe the receiver is overheating...?

Yeah, severe rainstorms have always been a problem, but this is something new. *sigh*

I live on the coast and found that terrestrial TV was dreadful here whenever there was a high pressure event (either hot or cold). Since getting satellite TV I have not encountered the problem. Once I lost signal. It turned out to be caused by a bolt that had come loose on the fixture attaching the dish to the wall, shifting the dish slightly out of true.

Something similar must have happened. I hope I can hunt down the maintenance guy in the not too distant future.

I couldn't hunt down the maintenance guy yet. Perhaps next week. *sigh*
