... but always shied away from, believing it to be way too complicated to make.

Well, I gathered my courage today and gave it a try, and you know what? It wasn't all that hard, after all. Time-consuming, for sure, as the dough had to chill for an hour, and picking red currants apart is slightly maddening, but in the end, I did it!

The result:

It is an almond meringue tart with red currants, very tasty. I should have taken it out of the oven a minute or so earlier, while the meringue was still pretty and white but it turned out well enough, and it is absolutely delicious, so I see a repeating of the event in my future.

Other than that, I wrote a page or so to Chapter 17 of "Magic Mirror" (and no, still no progress with Chapter 14) and finished another cute pot holder. Oh, and I solved some crossword puzzles, too. So, all in all, a busy and successful day.

I found the recipe in the book Backvergnügen wie noch nie. I bought that book when I was able to travel again for the first time after my homecoming.

omg that looks good! I love red currants, but the fresh fruit is almost impossible to buy here. Adding almonds and a meringue sounds delicious.

I love red currants, too, but while they are available here (more or less), they are also fairly expensive. I was lucky to find these on sale in the ALDI supermarket a few days ago.

It is very yummy indeed - and, to my surprise, it wasn't as complicated to make as I feared.

The tart looks and sounds yummy. In some ways I'm glad I don't bake. I am already overweight, but with temptation like that in the fridge I would be the size of a barn.

Don't be so sure! I find that this 16-hour-fasting diet becomes me very well. I can eat whatever I want during the eight hours I'm allowed to eat, and still have lost enough weight that I have to fix my trousers with a safety pin or I'd lose them. *g* We had the tart for lunch for two days, by the way.

Yeah, I don't know why was I so intimidated by the recipe. It turned out fairly easy in the end.
