And all that in a single day! Woot!

But seriously, Mum decided that she wanted to go with me to ALDI, which is a nice stretch of walk if someone is of her age. Rather exhausting for me because with her I have to walk very slowly, which is really bad for my back and knees. But fragile old ladies need their exercise, too, and the weather was nice, so off we went. We did take the tram back (for all the two stops) because by her speed the frozen goods would have thawed up and we didn't want that, obviously.

Wen we came home she unpacked the stuff we bought while I made another turn to LIDL, where I always buy mineral water and other heavy stuff, as it is on the next corner. I found that they've completely redecorated since last week - the effect is great, but now one has to re-learn how to find all the things in the brand new places. It took so long that Mum was halfway done with the sour cherry soup by the time I got home.

We decided to eat the soup and some of the cheesy buns we bought at ALDI because we didn't want to start cooking at half past two. After lunch I dismantled and pre-cooked the huge cauliflower I bought at LIDL and peeled and grated a big chunk of fresh ginger to freeze it for future ginger soup. *g*

Oh, and in the morning - before all this- I've finished another three pencil holders. (Whenever I make tomato soup, it means at least two new pencil holders afterwards.) These have a Christmas-y flair and I hope they'll be a burner on the charity fair in December. Unless the virus will still be around, of course.

Behold the pencil holders! (Pun completely intended...)

We had another crappy week weather-wise. Wednesday night around 5:30am we heard what sounded like things hitting the roof. The power went out and the tornado warning siren sounded immediately after. At daybreak, we realized there had been a weather event in our neighborhood. A few large trees were toppled onto cars and houses. A tree fell next door and just missed our neighbor's house. Debris from either a house or a work shed was strewn all over our street and in yards. We picked up a large piece of plywood and some broken two by fours plus various small tree branches that were blown about in our yard. All of this happened in seconds! Later, the weather service said the damage was caused from an EF-1 (86-110 MPH, medium damage) tornado. Scary! In fact, the same tornado hit a lawyer's office in an area close to us and did extensive damage, plus picked up an SUV truck from the office parking lot and dropped it upside down onto the Freeway. Luckily, no one was hurt. Power stayed off for most of the day, long enough, at least, to lose all the food in the refrigerator (again). I must say, the power company had crews out immediately and worked full stop until the damage in the neighborhood was repaired and everyone's power restored. It could have been much worse. Anyway, why I've been absent for a few days. Glad the weather has calmed in your area. Btw, we got the first ALDI in our city. I have not been able to visit yet, as it is quite far away, but plan to do so in the near future.

That sounds really scary. You have often tornadoes over there, don't you? Sorry for losing all the food in the fridge, that's really annoying. Perhaps you should dig your food in the earth or something, as people did in earlier times?

ALDI is a really great chain. The name comes from the abbreviation of Albrecht Discount, the Albrecht brothers being the founders of the chain. They started off with a puny little grocery store and when they died at the ripe old age of beyond 90, each, they were multimillionaires. But small people also profited from their activities, as prices are usually quite reasonable in their supermarkets.
