Well, not the food-hunting part, obviously, as it requires an early start. *g*

But I got a call in the afternoon from Elise (the future recipient of Baby Book #3), who gave me a detailed report about the already existing two granddaughters' reaction to the Doll House quiet book. Apparently, it was a raging success. The girls couldn't get enough of it, all features have been tested, and they agreed that this is a special toy that will remain at their grandmother's. That way it wouldn't be swept under all the other toys, and it will always be a special even to play with it. I must say, I'm quite pleased.

Then Evie has actually managed to come for a visit. It was such a wonderful experience to meet her in the person - we only had phone contact for the last three months! We were very disciplined, keeping proper distance and talking to each other from 3.2 metres away, but it was the most... personal encounter I've had since the dratted virus arrived.

She also brought us a large heap of cherries, fresh from the cherry tree in her own garden. I foresee cherry soup and cherry pie for the next couple of days. ;)) Mum gave her a package of beautiful paper serviettes as a thank-you gift, and she chose two of my patchwork cards to take home with her, one for herself and one for her eldest son because, as she said, that particular card was "just him".

Wow, that's fantastic about the Doll's House book, but I have to agree that it is a very special toy that should be cherished!

Cherries! When I was very young my Nana made cherry pies every summer. The neighbor had a cherry tree that hung over the fence separating their back yards and just that bit was plenty. The tree produced so much. Then, for a reason I can't properly remember they cut the tree down. :(
No-one could make a cherry pie like Nana did!

I don't think my cherry pie can be compared with your Nana's, but I found a quick and easy recipe on the Net that turned out very yummy, so I stick with that.

Cherries are just com ing right now and are so outrageously expensive that we couln't afford more than a handful. Now we have plenty, for soup and pie and just eating, which we greatly enjoy.

I'll bet it would compare. My Nana prided herself in her homemaking while also working a full time job. If she slept more than 5 hours a night she thought it was too much. She taught me so much about cooking and family values. She was also the most Christian person I've ever known. Not many could compete with her.

Cherries are way too expensive here. Even so you have inspired me. Maybe I'll splurge and bake a cherry pie.

Interacting with real people is something I never thought I would crave, but at the moment I would about sell my soul to sit in a room with a friend and have a real old natter.

I'm really glad about both. The book was such a gargantuan effort, I'd have been disappointed if the girls hadn't liked it. And having Evie over was (almost) like in old times.

I know a few versions (like Black Forest Gateau), but I'm always willing to try out new things.
Do you have a good recipe?

Cherries, yum! They are my favourites, and I look forward to this time each year when they are in season. I imagine the girls will always cherish the baby books, they are so special and lovely. Visits these days are so precious and rare, glad yours turned out well.
