I got the following meal from LJ today:

Dear user wiseheart,

We've noticed that your LiveJournal account's password wasn't updated for a long time. In order to keep your account secure, we recommend to frequently change passwords.

You can change your password right now at https://www.livejournal.com/changepassword.bml. For additional information regarding this process please refer the FAQ at https://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/18.html.

LiveJournal's password requirements have been updated since you've set your current password. Thus your current password will become invalid if it is not changed within five days. In this case you will have to set a new password following instructions provided in the FAQ at https://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/17.html#forgotpassword to regain access to your account.

Regards,
LiveJournal Team

So, I'm going to try and change my password now. Should I never be able to log in again and post to my own journal (or comment on your f-locked entries) - you'll know the reason. Being technically challenged is no fun.

That's very weird ... never had a mail like that.

Good luck!

Well, to be honest, I haven't changed my password for almost a decade or so, but I don't know why do they bother.

After some difficulties I seem to have a working new password now, although I'm not sure if the working part will last. *sigh*

I would be very wary of this message. I haven't changed my password for longer than that and I've had no message. Make sure you don't use the links provided. Go direct to the settings page instead.

Several friends have had this and are unsure if it is genuine. If I were you, I'd change the password from the LJ site not the link in the email

Well, too late for that, I've already changed my password via the link and got the verification from LJ, so let's hope nothing untoward happens. *sigh*

You could change it again on the site to be on the safe side as LJ accounts are precious, entirely up to you, of course,

Thank you for the suggestion. I just did it and managed to log in again, so it ought to be all right. Right?

OTOH, they temporarily banned my IP address when I tried to log in via my iPad mini after an "incorrect password" message. So I don't know if I typed in the password incorrectly at the first time or whatnot. *sigh*

Edit: I've indeed managed to misremember my brand new password after only five minutes. Corrected now. *fans herself* These things will be the death of my. I'm really, really technically challenged.

Wow, I went for years without accessing LJ or changing my password and did not get such a message. I hate having to change them, hard enough to remember what they are.

That's the main problem, yes.
