I'm mildly frustrated. I spent the morning hours re-writing the last couple of pages in the new TNG story - only to realize when I was done that I liked the previous version better. Fortunately, it's already typed up, so I can print it out and re-work the pages in question again, because there are a few things I wanted to add that didn't really merged well with the first re-write. Arrrrgh! I rarely do this, but sometimes it can't be allowed.

Then I worked a bit on the second batch of the cork and felt ornaments, only to tear up one of them completely because the design didn't work out the way I wanted it. A good thing that it was just a bit of glued-on stuff at this stage, not hours upon hours of sewing, but still. My ideas don't seem to work lately.

At least Hungarian telly means good for me at the moment. They've just re-started the original MacGyver series, the one with Richard Dean Anderson, as well as Charmed - both shows I used to like very much. Well, I liked Charmed until they killed Prue out. She was my favourite. I never liked Phoebe, and don't even let me start about Paige. As for MacGyver, I gave the remake one ten-minute chance and chose never to watch it again.

I don't doubt that it's an interesting series on its own. I just can't get used to the characters. The new Mac comes over as one of those snotty teenagers that were the plague of my life for 40 years, and George Eads just can't fill the shoes of Dana Elcar. I'm sorry, but most remakes just don't do it for me. I watch the series for the characters more than for the plot, and when totally diffrent (and mostly unlikeable) people show up wearing the names of my beloved characters, I just can't deal with it. Which is why I was never able to watch more than five minutes of the "reimagined" BSG. That and the doom and gloom of the series.

What I liked in Star Trek, up to Voyager, was the fact that the creators deliberately came up with new places, new ships, new characters. I could grow with each new series and learn to like (or dislike) the new characters. They didn't try to shove down my throat some unrecognizable jerk and tell me it's the character I've loved for decades.

Yeah, I'm old and cranky. I've earned the right to be that.

I watched maybe half a season of the new McGyver ... what about no?
And have you watched the new Charmed? Very ... weird ...

I didn't even know there's a new Charmed. Weird seems to be the new sexy in these days. I think I'll stick to the classics, thank you very much. I foresee an unusual amount of watching Hungarian tv, which is a first for me. I usually watch the German channels because Hungarian dubbing is so horrible.

My cynical side reappears with remakes. The original series was a commercial success, so studios attempt to recreate that success without the risk of developing a new series. I don’t watch much tv. I adored Good Omens, though, and I keep meaning to watch Carnival Row. I heard very good things about Stranger Things, but couldn’t summon the energy, which is a shame as everyone tells me that it was brilliant. Maybe I’m too old and cranky too.

I hear you. I must really force myself to start watching a new series, and I actually prefer series to films. I haven't been to the cinema since the second Hobbit film, and it's unlikely that I will do so in the near future.

I go to cinemas for my Marvel intake, and that’s about it. So expensive! Even the cheaper morning prices are too much. Yep, it’s clear, I’m definitely too old and grumpy!

I did like the redone BSG mostly although I agree it was a lot of doom and gloom. It just drove me nuts that my nice space show about humans vs robots turned into West Wing. I didn't watch West Wing for a reason.

I'm afraid I don't know a thing about West Wing.

The West Wing is part of our capital building. It was a drama about politics. (gag)

I, too, hated the re-make of MacGyver. Originals are almost always the best, at least where the characters are concerned.

Amen to that.
