New craft projects
Jul. 16th, 2019 07:19 pmI've had a busy day. Firstly, I took out all my vinyl disks, dusted them and selected those I'd probably listen to again in the future. The rest will be given away. Said rest consisted 1/3 of all my disks, making room for my super cool crafting box that I got from Baby Emma's grandmother as a very belated birthday gift.
Baby Emma's grandmother and I are only one year apart, age-wise... well, almost. We're born in the same month, I on October 9 and she on October 31, so there are three weeks each year when we are the same age. *g* We also get on fabulously, but don't meet very often, as they live outside the city in an outlaying village, and I don't have a car. So either Mum and I subject ourselves to a two-hour-trip with switching trams and stuff, or they come to us. Which wasn't simple while they had only one grandchild, already, as the little man just started kindergarten in September and managed to catch every available illness, but with the arrival of Baby Emma it would be even more complicated.
Still, she and my goddaughter (who's her daughter, of course) share my interest in baking and crafts, and I usually got craft supplies, baking ingredients and other such cool stuff for my birthday or Christmas, which are the only times we really bother giving gifts.
Then I printed out this little felt mermaid pattern, because the older granddaughter of E, our beloved colleague and librarian lady, just had her 4th birthday, and she's very keen on Disney characters. At first I wanted to make her a princess, but all patterns were so insanely complicated that I decided that she'll have to do with the Little Mermaid.
Mine will be slightly different, though, as I don't have the same colour of felts in store, and besides, i thought she'd look better blonde, with a green tail. I also intend to decorate the hair and the tail with lots of sequins - that meant, of course, that I've spent an hour or two selecting the right sequins, because I had them all in one large-is plastic box. I used some of the little plastic bags in which
elwenlj sent me the trimmings to separate the ones I'll need by colour. The rest of it is still in one unselected pile, but I think I'll eventually got to them. Perhaps when the telly shows something really boring. *g*
Another craft project in the making is a miniature chest of drawers, made of medium-sized matchboxes like this. Only that the new one will be covered by the rests of the wallpaper I've accidentally bought (while meaning to buy something better, but being mislead by the covering). So, the little chest will be entirely white, with a roughened surface, only the front of the drawers will be coloured, with brass knobs. This will be a gift for one of our school secretaries, as the other two have already got theirs. I just had to wait until we've used up six full boxes of matches!
