I decided that Mum and I needed something good after the big scare yesterday, so I made an experimental cake. This is it:

I call it an orange drizzle cake, for the lack of a better name. Basically, I used the recipe for the lemon drizzle cake, only I put grated orange zest and a little bit of orange baking aroma into the batter, instead of lemons. I also added a small handful of chocolate chunks (the kind one would use for chocolate chip cookies), poured the chocolate icing rests over it and sprinkled it with mini-marshmallows.

I like the sight of it, and it's tasty, too, although I managed to bake it a bit too long and so it's not as moist as I'd have liked it to be. But Mum said it was delicious, so my work is done. :)

Do you have a recipe for the lemon drizzle one?

Yep. I pinned it to our shared board on Pinterest, but just to be sure, here is the link:

Forgot to add: my recipe has 100 gr butter, 100 gr sugar, 2 eggs, 2 tsp water, 160 gr flour and 1 tsp baking powder. Those are the basic ingredients for a round baking tin with a diameter of 20 cm. Everything else you add to it is up to you.

I'd seen the pic on Pinterest but there wasn't a recipe?

If you click on the pic, it opens a new window to the BBC food website or whatnot. There's even a video showing how you have to make the cake. But the link I gave takes you to the same webpage, so you can reach it either way.

I've made an orange drizzle cake in the past to use up oranges when I couldn't be bothered to go out to get lemons! But I hadn't thought to add chocolate chips - what an excellent idea. I think I may well copy it!

On the pic here in LJ or on Pinterest ... because it didn't seem to work for me.

That is odd. I've just checked the link above and for me, it worked just fine. I'll copy the recipe for you as soon as I'm back on my main PC.

Feel free to do it. I always have quite a stock of such baking ingredients, so I have to improvise sometimes to use them up before they would go bad.
